The mower will not self propell. could it be that the belt is worn out? Or do I have a bigger problem? If so what should I look for? Thanks, John

Hi john, yes your belt could be cracked and not tight enough to run the drive. Also check your cable adjustment to be sure it is right.

I have a self propelled lawn mower and the the belt that propells the wheels is loose, do I need to replace it or is there a way to tighten the tension.

Cathy, there is a way to adjust belt tension on some models whether it is by the cable or a slotted bracket where the idler wheel is mounted, depends on make and model. If you have your manual check in it for belt adjustment. Could be stretched belt, stretched cable, worn/oil on pulley, seized tensioner, stretched/broken spring on tensioner, etc.

SELF PROPEL NOT WORKING

usually john the belt will stretch and start slipping. if you take off the cover and see if the belt is still on the pulleys turn it a few times to see if it is tight if not replace the belt.

My yard king performance 675 series has problem with self propelled unit.

your drive belt that turns the self propelled unit is worn or stretched and not turning the gears. or the gears themselves are worn down causing them not to engage. check your belt first that is most likely your problem. hope this helps

Self propelled #860. self propell got slower and slower. now barely assists. can I adjust the belt. manuual says bring it in. too far. how do I tighten? thx, bruce

Hello,

Your self propell is not adjustable. The belt runs over a spring tensioner, you either need a new belt or axle bushings. If you pull the top cover off, you can watch the belt when you engage it. With the engine off, can you move the front wheels up or down or forward or backward? If so the plastic bushings are worn out and this changes the geometry of the drive system, making the belt appear too long.

Hope this was helpfull, Matt

Toro Personal Pace self propel problem.

Your self-propel is probably belt driven. Belts can make an awfully lot of noise when unhappy. Possible it has rolled over and is running on the wrong side of the belt or is worn and just needs replaced. Hope this helps.,

Hello:

Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine and the Mower Model Numbers, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. The Engine Model Numbers May be Stamped Into the Blower Housing (metal engine cover) Above the Spark Plug. The Mower Model Numbers are Usually Located Under the Seat on a Sticker on the Body of the Mower.
