Question about Samsung SIR-S4120R DirecTV / TiVo DTV Receiver

I have a direct TV HD DVR that "looses" the signal to the tv Every friday from 8:20 till whenever.. I receive a "no signal" on the display of my HD TV. I go into the two other rooms in my house and they are fine. What can I do?

If the TV is receiving its signal from a cable TV box or DVR then you need to find out if the problem is in the TV or the cable box/DVR. Connect a different source to your TV such as a DVD or Blu-ray player and play a DVD movie. If the problem occurs again it suggests the TV needs repair. If the TV works OK when playing a DVD movie then that suggests that your cable box/DVR needs repair or replacement.
If your TV is receiving its signal directly from an antenna or cable outlet on the wall then you should try replacing the cable wire from the wall to the TV with a new wire. If that doesn't help then your TV probably needs repair or replacement.

Why can't i see 1080p programs on my directv hd dvr? The test on the hdr says my receiver doesn't receive 1080p. My tv is a Sharp LC-62C42U which is suppose to receive 1080p!


Your DVR can't detect whether your TV can do HD or not. If the message is stating that your receiver (which is your DVR) can't receive 1080P, then you'll need to contact DirecTV for assistance. You may need to replace your DVR.

Don't want to use receiver to turn Plasma on via Verizon DVR


You can not have a signal from cable/satelite TV when reciever is OFF.The only way is reconnect by using defferent setup configuration to illiminate the receiver.In that case you well see just regular Tv program but you should connect antena to your TV.

Samsung lcd hdtv won't receive signal from fios hd receiver


Hey nothingsfree,

You may not necessarily have anything incorrectly set up, but there are a couple of things that I would suggest trying.

First, you'll want to make sure that your TV is set to the correct input source. Some TV's will require that the input source be changed in order to display any signals from an external device, like your HD-DVR. This can typically be done by accessing the main video menu using your remote control.

According to information provided by the manufacturer, you should be able to change the input source for this model TV (Samsung LN46A750) by doing the following:

* Press the "Menu" button on your remote control
* Press the "Up" or "Down" arrow button to select "Input," then press "Enter"
* Press "Enter" to edit the "Source List"
* Highlight the signal source for the HD-DVR, and press "Enter"

Next, you may want to try updating the TV's firmware. In some instances, simply updating a TV's programming can eliminate any potential hardware or software conflicts between two devices. To update the TV's firmware you will need access to a computer and a USB flash drive. Step-by-step instructions and the firmware update itself are available through the following website:

If all else fails, I’d suggest contacting the manufacturer for further assistance. In many cases manufacturers are able to provide over-the-phone troubleshooting support, in addition to having access to a wider variety of possible remedies for hardware problems.

Surround sound 5.1


Does your rca cables go to a surrond sound amplifier or directly to the tv. The tv only has two speakers.If the signal is sent to a seperate receiver it must have a lisyen mode then set to 5.1 surround. The digital optic cable should go to receiver first.

Off Air?


The Scientific Atlanta box was a cable box and recieved CATV signals. The Direct TV box is satellite only. You might check if it has a built in ATSC tuner for off air digital signals. Direct TV in most locations offers the major networks in HD format.

have you gone through the menu to assign which signals the receiver recognizes?  I had to change the source when i switched to the Dish Network HD receiver.
