Waterproof camera ?

Hi

I have a 770 Sw waterproof camera. I was using it under water on my holiday and now when I am trying to switch it on it just doesn't react. The power (red) light goes on and then off. I have charged my battery but it didn't help. Can you please tell me what I should do. I still have warranty. I live in London so maybe you have a customer service here. If yes, please let me know.
My email is : ula_kieren@yahoo.co.uk
Many thanks

Ula

Real problem camera. Now on a trip in the caymans and again, for the third time in a year it just froze up and will not work. It's dead. I have two good olympus batteries and neither of them turns the camera. The last two times I returned it to olympus and they "repaired" it. This time, same as last time. the lens is in the open position but the camera will not turn on or off. It's just dead. Be aware that it is a problem camera.

I have just had olympus call to say the repair is going to cost $250.00, what a joke. The camera is only 13 months old and is hardly used.
I wont buy one of these cameras again and I suggest no one else does.
    All the best, Keith.

Same problem. the camera stopped taking pictures and the red light just blinks and the lens cover freezes half open. I to bought new battery and still nothing happens

Bought camera last year whilst on holidays in Florida, used a couple of times in the pool. Took it on holidays used three times in the sea and on the third occasion the camera stopped working, on opening we found water had got in, we tried drying the camera out but most of the functions were not working. Posted the camera to Olympus Service Centre in London requesting repair under warranty and they have returned the camera (minus the battery - will be ringing them tomorrow!!!) with the following message "We regret to inform you that we have been unable to return your OLYMPUS equipment to a satisfactory condition. Upon internal inspection our engineers found that the unit has sustained liquid damage making the repair uneconomical." Needless to say I'm furious and will be taking the matter further.

I went diving with the camera, but not to 10m. It worked for a day or two after being in the water, but upon flying home the camera would blink a red light and then shut down. The lens cover is half way open. Bummer.

Open the cover and using a dry, clean cloth clean its inner part and also the lens.

switch it off and then on.

if then also it does not work

try a new battery.

there may be some hole or it may be broken from somewhere from where

get the body checked and if any fault, set it changed.

Well it might be waterproof, but it may not include saltwater proof. I think that is the case. If so, then the salt got into your camera and caused something to not work. I would take it in Olympus and let them look at it. It could just be a bad camera.

My guess the lcd screen was faulty or the water leaked in there and shortcircit it.

My Olympus 1050 SW looks like it might have a little water inside the camera. The lens is foggy. I didn't take it very deep the last time I was in the water with it, but I did store it in a cooler and...

You can TRY and dry out the camera, but I can pretty much guarantee you that there is corrosion inside and it will eventually fail if it hasn't done so already. The Olympus Stylus Tough cameras are not very tough or waterproof unfortunately. I have seen dozens of them with smashed LCD windows or that have leaked water.

Don't buy a waterproof camera, cause they aren't waterproof. Buy an underwater case and put your camera in that.

To try and dry out the camera, some people suggest putting it in a ziplock back with rice to pull out the moisture, it's not a bad thing to try. The fog in the lens MIGHT go away, but it will most likely leave spots or a big ring which will show up on all your pictures.

Your camera is most likely a goner, sorry to say.

The description said it was an underwater camera but once i took it underwater it turned off and will not turn on.

Welcome to FixYa.

Before using the camera in under water, you have to secure that battery cover, card slot cover snd DC IN terminal cover are completely closed to prvent water from getting inside the camera and damaging it. Please note that the camera accessories are not waterproof.

Yes, Sanyo VPC-WH1 High Definition Camcorder is a waterproof camcorder, however you can not used it in all types of water. Below are the Cautions concerning use in water.

* The waterproof properties of the camera apply to fresh water and saltwater only. They do not apply to cleaning substances, chemicals or water from spas.
* Do not immerse in water at a depth greater that 3.0m (9.84ft)
* Do not subject the camera to high-pressure water.
* Do not immerse in water for longer than 60 minutes.
After 60 min. of use in water, allow it to dry for at least 10 min.
* Do not immerse in water that is warmer than 40 degree C.
* Do not open and close the battery cover, card slot cover or DC IN terminal cover with wet hands.
* Do not open and close the battery cover, card slot cover or DC IN terminal cover on the beach or at the poolside.
* Do not jolt the camera while it is immersed in water. doing so may cause the battery cover, card slot cover or DC IN terminal cover to open.

And one more thing that you have to do is to chaged/replaced the waterproof seals every year with new ones. For replacing the seals, please consult your dealer and take note that there is a fee for replacing the waterproof seals.

I hope this information will give you an idea on how to use your camera under water.

Feel free to send us your comments and suggestions.

Thank you for using FixYa.

My Olympus Digital Camera Stylus 850 SW is supposedly waterproof, and shockproof, but when i went on vacation, and took it into the water park, and inside the water. It broke. Water got into it even though...

Is it under warranty?

I would be trying to make a claim against it for NOT being waterproof. If they don't come to the party and replace it you could threaten to sue for false advertising, Contact Olympus I am sure they woulde want to investigate it

Not so waterproof?

Since the camera is billed as waterproof I would send it to an Olympus service center for an evaluation to see if it going to be covered under warranty for repair if I were you. The repair techs will evaluate the camera and let you know if it is indeed repairable.

http://olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_servicerepair.asp

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $107.85 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

Olympus Underwater MJU 795 LEAKS

I have an olympus 770 sw I used to have the same problem... the solution is after using your camera make sure the camera is dry and open the slot for the battery and clean it and do the same for the other slot somtimes youll get small debree in the cracks of your cameras cover for the battery slot thats were the water enters. I use a little bit of vaseline on the rubber pading for the battery cover to lube it out and had no problems sinse.
