It is best to use a chain tool to press the pins in and out. They will prevent damaging the chain when pushing the pin. Chain tools are cheap and totally worth the money because you won't have to replace the chain again due to damage.

Cyclo Rivoli is the cheapest chain tool and works quite well, sold all over the place. Here is an example: http://www.amazon.com/Cyclo-Rivoli-CY-158R-Chain-tool/dp/B0009W81NM

Hi
very often you need to replace the rear cluster at the same time as the chain, as it wears to the shape of the old chain and when a new chain is fitted to an old cluster it can sometimes jump, which is not fun if you are standing and pedalling up a hill ( not quite as bad for the ladies)
anyhow remove the old chain by punching a pin out of a link, and lay it on the ground next to the new chain, punch a pin out of the new chain at the same lenght.
Thread the new chain around the cogs and derailleur and fit the joiner, there are some really neat joiners that will just slot together. or you can use the link from when you sized the new chain, just press the pin back through with multy grips, make sure the joiner link is not sticky at all, or it will jump when it goes around the cluster

Proper tools are a necessity. A cassette lockring tool and chain-whip (examples: http://www.roadragecycling.com/2012/10/bike-tools-top-11-you-need-most.html about half way down the page)

The proper lock ring for a Shimano 9 cassette is a Park Tool FR-5. There are other generic tools as well; but the FR-5 is the most common.

Many companies make chain whips too. My favorite (and the one in the picture) is the Wheels Manufacturing tool. It is also one of the most affordable.

For what it's worth: if there is a bike shop near you - many will remove a cassette for a nominal fee. Often $5-10.

My campy record 10 speed gear seems to hang too far forward, resulting in a chain which droops, particularly in lower gears

you need to ajust the chain lenght. talk to your local bike shop for the correct length.removing 4-5 links should do it.

I need to remove chain on a 26" mans speed bike Is there a king link or a removable link?

No, to install or remove a chain on a bike with derailleurs (gears) you need a special chain tool to "break" the link. goto your local bike shop and they will have a few different ones to choose from depending on how often you will want to do this procedure.

Different chains require different tools and price varies from $10- to over $100. Also you should get a little instruction on how to reinstall properly, if you don't do it right the chain will break when you go riding and could cause injury.

Chain placement on Next 21 gear mountain Bike

You haven't actually asked a question, so I am guessing that you want to know how to replace a bicycle chain on a 21 speed bike. To remove the chain you need to use a chain tool that presses one of the pins out of the one of the chain links (any link, there is no master link). To put the new chain on you use the chain tool to press the pin in. This is just a little tricky with a chain tool, but it's just about impossible without it. They sell these tools at bike shops and maybe even at Wal-mart. Take a look at this link to see a what I'm talking about. http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/chain-installation-derailleur-bikes By the way, Park tools are very good quality for the money.

Chain Broke on a Huffy Tundra 18 speed 26" bike. I need to know the size chain to replace or the master link/chain connector to fix the chain.

if the bike has gears it does not have a master link, that is for single speed bikes only.

You will need an 8spd chain for your bike (1/2" x 3/32), these will fit any 6,7 or 8 spd bike. This requires a special tool to install ($8-$25), I would recommend taking into a bike shop and have them do it if you have no experience with this type of chain.

Side note: if you do own the tool, you can repair a broken chain for a temporary fix in the future, so may be worth buying. Check around, many bike shops offer basic repair classes and cover this.

My grandsons bike chain broke. Went to the store to buy a new chain. On the back of the package it said I needed a chain rivet extractor and of course, the store didn't carry that tool. How can I fix...

You should go to a bike shop, they can sell you a master link, and keep your own chain. Is your grandson's bike a 1 speed or a multi speed bike, if it is multi then you need a chain tool. Bike shops can do the job cheaper than you can buy the tool and it will be done right. Take the chain back to the store that didn't carry the tool.
