Question about Onkyo Audio Players & Recorders

I have a Onkyo TX-SR604 Receiver. I get no sound

I have a Onkyo TX-SR604 Receiver. I get no sound out of Zone 2 when I flip over to Video 1, however, if I have Video 1 on the main speakers, it is fine. I can hear sound clearly out of Zone 2 when the DVD is playing. Video 1 is the digital cable feed to the receiver. Any thoughts?

I meant to add to my question that I also have RCA cables feeding out of the box and to the receiver specifically for analog purposes. It has worked for the last 5 years with no problems, just recently within the last 2 weeks has it stopped working with Zone 2. Does that change your original answer to my question?

Hello Fixya customer,

Thank you for your question.

A point to keep in mind here is that Zone II will only feed through an analog source. Since the Video 1 input is using the digital (coax, optical) input that that is your most likely issue.

Thank you for using Fixya, and please let me know if I can firther assist.

We need to know if the analog from the box is actually working. Are the main speakers getting their source from the analog or digital inputs? If you are only using analog, then the issue would appear to be with the Onkyo, however, if you are using Digital for the Main speakers then the issue can be with the analog cables and the box. Try unplugging the box to see if that resets the audio.

Also, you can "clear" the Onkyo to factory settings by holding the "VCR & Stby" button until you see clear on the dsiplay.

Warning, this will go back to the factroy settings.

    Thank you

Can a Onkyo tx sr604 receiver be used as a pre amp?

Yes. You can use the Line Out, or Pre-Amp output into another receiver or amplifier. The receiver or amplifier you use as the amp, will need to have a volume control, as the line output coming from the TX SR604 cannot be varied.

If you have any further questions, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com and contact me there.

Thank you.

Onkyo tx-sr604 help

You said you tried hooking the HDMI up directly from the TV to each component, and that worked. How is it usually hooked up - through some kind of switch? I'm not completely understanding your setup here.

My Onkyo TS-SR604 has a "power on problem" whereby

Check to make sure the speakers are secure, if everything is fine! the problem is in the audio output ic's in the receiver. This will need a technician to take it further to find out how much the cost will entail.

Hi, this is not really a problem. I have an Onkyo TX-SR604 receiver. I had polkaudio speakers RTi8 speakers that are no longer working properly. I am looking for recommendations for new speakers that can...

A receiver with the specs...

* "90 watts minimum continuous power per channel, 8 ohm loads, 2 channels driven from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, with a maximum total harmonic distortion of 0.08%"

(*) The only acceptable statement of its power bandwidth in the manual.

... when fed an undistorted audio signal, used properly and not driven abto clipping is not particularly dangerous to any reputable speaker.

Driving any amplifier, even a modest one, into high distortion is more dangerous to any speaker than a high-powered amp pumping pure undistorted power.

Choose any speakers but low efficiency models if you want loud and clean sound.

Onkyo TX-SR604 provides audio thru receiver but no video on Bravia LCD when satellite receiver signal is sent thru any of the Onkyo HDMI connections to tv, however if I connect up my Samsung DVD recorder...

easiest fix is to take all hdmi straight to tv. then come out of tv with optical cable to your receiver. that way what ever your watching will automatically be sent to the receiver thru optical. you even will get dolby dig. also you can have audio from your tv when you dont want to use your surround. keeps receiver on one input also.
