I have a craftsman model 139.53637srt residential door opener which has chewed the main gear to dust and the worm gear does not get any contact with the gear. What are my options?

is there anything online that I can get to show me how to troubleshoot my issue and also show me how to remove the destroyed gear? And, would you know if this craftsman model door opener has a life time warranty? I think that's my dollars worth.

You can buy that gear as an assembly from www.sears.com. You just punch in your model number. I bought that drive gear assembly and it came with the large white gear and the smaller gear to the left. I didnt end up replacing the smaller gear because it wasnt damaged at all. The repair took me about an hour. Theres three 1/4in screws at the top plate that need to be removed and a small U clip at the bottom and the gear will slide right out the top. You have to loosen the chain and remove it before you start. Then reassemble and grease the gear. The kit comes with very detailed instructions and will cost you around 35 bucks. You will probably have to make some adjustments on your up force and up/down distance knobs once you finish. The instructions also walk you through these steps if necessary. Hope this helps _MJ_

First thing to do is to find the cause of this problem then after that, I would suggest remove the worn out gear and replace it. Now if the parts cannot be ordered or is unavailable then your next option is to look for a machine shop(a place where they can carve into metal, like take a metal rod and place it on a machine. The latter would then rotate the metal while it can be cut to required specifications). The gear can be rebuilt by a professional and fitted back in place.Repairing a gear is not an easy job and require good expertise and tools in order to be successful, so choose carefully for the right experts.

Is there any adjustment for the gear drive sprocket that meshes with the worm drive? my gear is not engaging any more

If your drive gear is not meshing with the worm gear it is because it is worn out. You'll need to replace it post haste. The part number is 41A2817 and is available at Sears or any good door opener service company.

I have replaced the worm gear assemble twice in my craftsman 1/2 hp garage door. what am i doing wrong. why does it keep turning to dust

Use that small tube of grease in the kit and smother the gear teeth with it. Use it all. Also disconnect the opener from the door and lift the door by hand. It could be the springs are either broken or so heavy the opener can't survive lifting it.

Liftmaster 1/2hp problem with shredding gear shift really fast

DOES THE DOOR WORK SMOOTHLY AND EASILY MANUALLY??
IF NOT THAT WILL CHEW UP YOUR GEARS.
IF THE DOOR WORKS WELL MANUALLY I AM GUESSING YOU ONLY REPLACED THE EASY GEAR.
YOU NEED TO REPLACE *BOTH* GEARS - FOLLOW THE INSTUCTIONS COMPLETELY. THE SECOND ONE IS HARD TO CHANGE BUT IF YOU DON'T THE ROUGH SURFACE OF THE HARDER WORN GEAR WILL CHEW AT THE NEW GEAR AND ..... WELL YOU HAVE SEEN THE RESULTS.
HOPE THIS HELPS
