Hello

Without a laptop model number, we can only give you general advice.

Does the laptop beep when you turn it on? If it does, the number of beeps will indicate what is wrong.

If it does not beep, there may be a power issue - try removing the battery and use the AC Adapter only. Also, try swapping out the power adapter if you can.

Here is a link lor Lenovo (they bought IBM laptop and desktop) general troubleshooting page...

    Hello

I am sorry to hear you are still having issues.

Since the desktop is not booting up at all, remove all of the RAM and then turn it on. This should give an error in the form of beeps as the computer cannot start without RAM. Note the number of beeps on this test.

Put one stick in at a time and try to boot up. You may need to move the single stick of RAM to each slot and try booting it up. The goal is to see if it will either boot to BIOS or give a constant error (beeping pattern) that can assist with troubleshooting the issue.

If the computer does not boot to BIOS, verify the beep error that is given. IF this is the same as the no RAM beep error, move the RAM stick to a different slot / try a different RAM stick. This indicates that the motherboard does not recognize the RAM stick and cannot boot because it thinks there is no RAM in the system.

IBM THINKCENTRE A51 - WON'T BOOT

Simple dear, I think that you can see the power led and hdd led but it wont boot. Right. So switch the system and than open the cabinet and than remove the RAM , CLEAR THE DUST ON THE SLOT AND RAM. THAN REPLUG IT IN THE SAME WAY. PLEASE DO NOT INSERT IT FORCEFULLY BECAUSE IT WILL GO EASILY IF YOU ARE INSERTING IT IN RIGHT WAY. SO CHECK THE POSITON OF THE NOTCH ON BOTH THE RAM AND SLOT OK

AND THAN START THE SYSTEM. THIS MIGHT DEFINATELY SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM.
