Question about Comdial Executech 6414 Corded Phone

1 Answer

Programming issues I was recently requested to install a Comdial Executech system for a friend. The model number of the system is N0820. I have a manual for the 616x, 816x-824x so I assume it should cover this system. I tried to program the prime line and if that is the option I think it is, it did not work. I assume this programs the set to pick up the programmed line when you go off hook instead of having to select a line. The system we have in the fire station works that way although it is a 616x. In addition, I thought the station lights should come on when a station goes off hook. I could not get that option to program either. All the sets I have work otherwise as they will pick up dial tone and lock out other stations on the privacy function. They will even intercom each other when you dial the station number. I can change from tone to voice activation on the itercom function so some of the programming functions work. This leads me to think I'm just doing something wrong on the station COS menu. Any thoughts?

I think you ought to start with the proper manual and a proper phone.

The XE series systems were made in the 90's, about 5 or 6 years after your 616x. They took advantage of the new phones, with display, and the 66xx and 67xx series sets. Your 616 uses the 64xx and old 35xx sets. So, which phones are you using? Start on page 47 of this manual and make sure you program the ports on pdf page 58 (pgm 61) according to the phone types you have. Once you properly define the pones, everything will start to behave.

Customer tols his friends and now looks like I might be doing what I used to that I really don't want to anymore - if you know what I mean. Thanks a lot for your assistance - it IS greatly appreciated."

Let me think. On the face of the cabinet, there are 10 or so modular jacks, one for every 2 lines and one for the 8 stations. If you plug the lines into a regular (not Comdial) phone, do you still get a dial tone?
You would get lines 1 and 3, as line 2 would be the second pair of the first jack.

If the box still lights up, I'm guessing that whatever fed dial tone into those lines got disconnected. Is this the part where you tell us you went to VoIP or cable dial tone and they disconnected the local phone company interface?

Comdial Executech 6714x-PG We have nearly 20 phones. All of them get a dial tone but nothing happens when you press 9 to dial out, none of the phones will dial out. Calls can come in only. Thank you

they are either restricted or what you are hearing is intercom tone and not dial tone. the phones may be set to dial out from a diffrent line grop as well have you tried dialing 81 82 instead of 9 and see what happens

How do you program the phone to go to the line that is ringing?

Ringing line preference is programmed per station in system programming. It varies by system, but in an XE, it's program 60 and button A8. If your system manager knows how to program the system, then it's a feature that's found early in the Station Programming section.

Speaker button won't turn off

It al depends on what the phone is connected to, but try INTERCOM #1. (*1 turns it on).

If that doesn't' work, post back and try to find the model number of the phone system. It's written on a black and silver tag on the right side of the system cabinet, probably right under the system power light.

Buzzing when call on hold

Restart your phone system. Let it stay off for a minute.
If problem continues look what is connected to your music on hold port. Look into that media device and conection methods. If nothing connected you will need to contact your local Comdial Vendor.

We cannot hear a ring on incoming calls

Sounds like your system defaulted. Only a few phones ring at system default and you may not have those ports connected. First, you need to figure out which Comdial Impact system you have. The phone will work on a few different Comdial systems. Find the main box and get a model number from that. You'll have to tackle re-programming ringing yourself or pay a local company to do it. If you do it yourself you will need the "programming and installation" manual specific for your system. A "user guide" will be of no use to you. You can search the net for "Comdial Digitech, Impact & Impression Programming & Installation Manual" Next, I would suggest a UPS backup for your system so this does not happen again. Unless you have a large carded system with dozens of phones, your phones require less power than a typical computer so a UPS made for a computer will be fine. The system will default either when the system memory battery goes too low or I have seen a few cases where power fluctuations will cause it (like when the power goes on-off-on-off rapidly in a storm) either way a UPS system with surge protection will help.
