I am connecting an amplifier to my VR-407 to accomodate more speakers I have installed throughout my home. Where do I connect the amplifier?

Connect the amplifier input to the VR-407 using the receiver's REC OUT jacks for the MD/TAPE input on the back panel. This is a fixed line-level output for recording, and will work fine for driving the additional amp.

Sub woofer output port does not seem to work on my kenwood VR 407, checked sub woofer on another system - works fine, any easy solutions?

Is the 407 set up to drive the unknown sub. It's not just plug n play.

The manual will guide you, around page 15. Also refer to your subwoofer manual. Try retrevo.com for that one.

Antenna

You can use any indoor TV antenna for the FM section. I've been able to pick up local stations with two pieces of wire (about 30" long) attached to the antenna terminals (other end not connected to anything) and arranged so they angle away from each other. If you want a more sensitive antenna, you can make it using twin-lead cable. See the link below. I've done the math for you: the half-wavelength figure to use is 5 feet; this is for the middle of the FM band in North America.

The AM section usually operates with an antenna coil, either permanently attached to the back of the receiver, or mounted inside.
