Hello,

You can try the steps below. Its from PlayStation Forum:

1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

The current Recovery Menu supports:
• Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System.
• Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default.
• Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.
• Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3.
• Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.
• System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System

If the above steps still does not solve the problem, then I think will have to update your Ps3.

Update your PS3 (in the settings menu the 1st option).

Go on the internet browser on the PS3 then go on the menu press triangle then on one of them there are delete cookies and the delete the others as well as cookies.

You could also try this as well: put the PS3 on then press the eject button (with no disc in) then hold it and switch the PS3 off at the back with your finger on the eject button still holding it, then put it back on and the fan test should be working this may cool it down. It might be over heating.

If after trying the above options and it still does not solve the problem, then maybe the lens is weak and that's why it cannot read any disc.

But if your problem is not still solved, then maybe you should call sony for further assistance.

I wish you good luck.

I have the E 74 error how do i fix it?

Hi,

Basically, this problem is caused by overheating, which is often an issue with most high-powered electronic devices.
As heat levels rise inside your Xbox 360 the connection between the motherboard and the video scaler (HANA/ANA) chip is damaged due to the expansion and contraction of the metal connectors.
Once you have experienced the red ring of death e74 once on your Xbox 360, it will continue to happen over and over again until you fix the problem permanently.
The process of repairing the Xbox 360 red light e74 involves opening up your console, removing the hard drive and disk drive (as these get in the way when you are navigating around the narrow confines of the case) and then locating the video scaler chip.
You then remove it from its seating point and clean the connections; an eraser works well for this. It then has to be seated correctly back in its slot. Once this is done and the hard drive and disk drive are re-installed you can put the case back together.
When you turn your console on again it should be free of the e74 error.
Good Luck and have a nice day.

E74 error code for xbox

The E74 error is caused by the scaler chip at the back of the console taking too much heat. To fix it you need to stop the heat build up.

You can do this yourself using a good guide that will show you how to fix it with household items or you can send it in and they will fix it for you.

E74 notice. 1 red light on ring....game looked grainy while playing b4 e74 notice appeared

If it is under warranty (E74 is covered for 3 years) contact Microsoft. If not consider finding a reputable person to fix it for you. It is a rather easy permanent fix (no towel tricks, or fan tricks, they only further harm the console in the long run) but it does require some know how.

E 74

There is no permanent fix for the E74 error, the fixes that are available only work for about a month if your lucky. Send it in and have it fixed or buy one of the new Falcon board 360's.

One Flashing Red Light

I work at a video game store as a technician so I see many Xbox 360's come through here with many types of problems. I happen to have 4 "E74" Xbox's sitting right next to me. The X-Clamp Fix works 10 percent of the time for E74 and for that 10 percent it only works for about a month. The penny trick is a load of bull, again only a very temporary fix. I have found no permanent fix for the E74, and the only way to fix it is to send it in to Microsoft. I don't care what people say can fix the problem, the only way to fix it it send it back to the manufacturer before you break the seal. Either that or buy one of the new Falcon board Xbox's. They have a smaller failure rate then the older models.
