Your product specs can be found here

below under TECHNICAL SPECS in audio you can see that you system is supposed to come with a built in mic.

go into system preferences, (sound panel in the OS settings, select input device, input levels), see if you get any feed back from input level, see it's also muted or turned all the way down and adjust as needed
.
if no feedback seen on input level check if the mic holes have any dust in them, clear the dust as needed.

do you remember ever using your mic? where do you need the mic to be activated, see if there's any configuration that you need to do under tools or options for that application

has your computer ever being disassambled?, any repairs? that may have cause the mic to be disconnected internally (if you don't see any input level feed back when talking close to the mic openings and if it's not muted)?

there's a chance that there's a hardware problem, I've heard about wiring wear out causing mic to stop functioning,

a last thing you want to try is a type of hard reset (see here), this is a last resort. if this does not work, it's fair to assume that you have a hardware problem and if there's no warranty on the ibook you may want to just simply get a usb handset (mic and head piece) for your mic needs..

China mic

I wish you provided more information to explain your mic problem. A mic may not be working because of any of the following:
1. cables (inside the mic housing or through out the cable length from the housing to the connector at the end) are not properly connected, either due to bad soldering or cable qualities.
2. problems on the mic switch: electronically (shorted internal components) or mecanically (loose "push to talk" rod or rod is too short so pressing the outter ptt bar does not activate anything).
Hope it helps. Goodluck, es

The mic does not work but I can gear people

Looks like you are using more mic's on your system.(The internal mic within a laptop?)

See within the operating system if the correct mic is activated.

You must always callibrate a new mic within the operating system.

Good Luck.

My acer aspire 5742-7653 internal microphone is not picking up sound. what's the fix for this?

go to the sound mixer(double click on speaker mark on the task bar). and then click on option, and then properties.you can see dialog box with recording and playback settings.
first mark on playback , and check activate the mic on that, if not put the tick on selection box.
then mark on recording. check the mic activation same as that. then click ok. you can see recording mixer.
OK now check have an advance controller button near the mic controller . if not click on option, and check have a tick with the advance controller. if not put the tick in frount of addvance controller. now already you in recording mixer. now you can see that button.
after that, click on "select" check box with the mic and increase the level to top. then click on "advance" controller, and put the tick on mic 1 boost. then close all windows and check the mic,
using via some recording software (like as windows sound recorder ), or activate the mic for working with speakers via put the tick on the mic tab on playback mixer. ( when that can hear like some siren noise , pull down the mic level to control that)

Others cant hear me while i can hear them in the chat with the laptop

This is due to a problem with your mic. If you're using an internal mic, please check if it is activated in your operative system preferences. If you're using an external mic, then you should first check if drivers are installed and then go to the program preferences you use for chatting and select it, usually under the audio menu.

Push to talk problem

Hi,

If indeed radio #1 has a mic problem, this may be confirmed by trying an external speaker/microphone plugged into the accessory jack. If still a no, then its not the mic but possibly the modulator circuitry. If there is transmit audio with the external mic and hence internal mic is defective, the unit would have to be pried open and the defective component replaced. The internal mic is normally an electrofet 2-3 terminal soldered to a shielded wire and physically attached to the front plate.

Alternately, another possibility is that radio #2 has its Interference Eliminator Code enabled/activated. This is indicated by the presence of small sized digits on the top right of display. If this is the case and no similar digits are displayed in radio #1, then radio #2 will not allow any received transmission to be heard. Along the same line of reasoning, if the code is activated on both radios signified by the presence of the 2 small digits, and radio #1 has a problem with its CTCSS (code) generator, then it would also prevent reception of radio #2. A way to verify this is by deactivating/disabling the Interference Eliminator Codes on both radios.

On certain occasion, it is also possible that radio #2 has a defective speaker. You should be able to verify this by plugging in an external speaker to the accessory jack of radio #2.

Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
