Hi Paul!

Seeing as how you only performed ONE refit, it SHOULD be easy to trace the problem. I'm thinking the ground is faulty as the unit seems to have power to it judging from the three dashes visible that you mention.

Hopefully it WON'T be the connection at the top of the mast, but you know Murphy's Law.

Hope this is of help to you.

Good Luck!

How do you replace a broken car antenna mast

depending where the mast is fitted , either roof or side panel , you will need to remove the trims that are directly below the anntena , then unbolt the fitting and trace the route of the wire to the radio , refitting is the reverse

Need to know how to remove a regular antenna from a 1996 Toyota Tacoma. It is not a power antenna.

Toyota Pick-ups/Land Cruiser/4Runner 1989-1996
Antenna - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

If your antenna mast is the type where you can unscrew the mast from the fender, simply do so with a pair of pliers. Most damaged antennas are simply the result of a truck wash or similar mishap, in which the mast is bent.

Manual Antenna
  1. Disconnect the antenna cable at the radio by pulling it straight out of the set. Depending on access, this may require loosening the radio and pulling it out of the dash.
  2. Working under the instrument panel, disengage the cable from its retainers.
On some models, it may be necessary to remove the instrument panel pad to get at the cable.
  1. Outside, unsnap the cap from the antenna base.
  2. Remove the screw(s) and lift off the antenna, pulling the cable with it, carefully.
To install:
  1. When reinstalling, make certain the antenna mount area is clean and free of rust and dirt. The antenna must make a proper ground contact through its base to work properly.
  2. Install the screws and route the cable into the cab. Make certain the cable is retained in the clips, etc.
  3. Connect the cable to the radio; reinstall the radio if it was removed.

Power Antenna Mast
The power antenna system contains a relay. If the power antenna is inoperative, the relay is the first place to look. The actual motor rarely fails.
The power antenna mast is replaceable on the Pick-Up and 4Runners. If the mast is damaged or broken, proceed as follows:
  1. Perform this repair with the battery cables connected. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Remove the antenna nut.
  3. If equipped with a CD player, press the AM and FM buttons on the receiver and simultaneously turn the ignition switch to ACC .
  4. For non-CD player units, press the AM button and simultaneously turn the ignition switch to ACC .
  5. The antenna motor will run, unwinding the mast from the spool. have an assistant guide the mast so it doesn't fall and damage the bodywork. When fully extended, the mast will be released. Remove it, and leave the ignition in the ACC position.
To install:
  1. Insert the new cable so that the teeth face the rear of the vehicle. Feed the cable into the motor until the cable reaches the bottom, about 12 in. (30cm).
  2. Have an assistant ready and prepared to guide the cable. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK . The motor will run, winding the cable onto the spool and drawing the antenna down into the mount.
  3. If the cable does not wind, twist the cable at the top of the housing; the part at the bottom may have turned while being pushed down the hole.
  4. Once wound onto the spool, install the antenna nut even if the antenna is not fully retracted. Test the antenna elevation and retraction; the mast will eventually retract fully.
Hope helped with this (remember rated this post).

Volvo 850 automatic arial or antenna not working just stop up

the mast as it is called is broken. under that metal is a white plastic mast with teeth that pushes the mast up when u turn on the radio and goes down when radio is turned off. when the teeth on the mast are stripped or mast breaks from old age it is either in the down position or in the up position. You can fix by yourself if you have alittle knowledge. pullantenna out. take out screws and take the cap off at fender. it screws off. take black cover off and you will see soem of the mast broken inside it sort of winds in a circle. get another at volvo and change it out. if in doubt look at your HAYNES book. good luck and don't sweat the small things.

Fitting new antena aerial to Saab 93

Len-
The replacement only costs about $20. The dealer can also provide a replacement but it can cost upwards of $50+. Part number is 5035944.

The hardest part is removing the metal sleeve from the mast pole. Once you get this out, refit the new mast with the teeth so the motor will pull the new mast down when you turn the radio off. refit the 17mm nut on top of the mast and then turn the radio back on. It will click a few times and then be properly set.

Installation of vt holden commodore aerial rope and mast

You access the ariel via the left hand wheel arch.
1. Remove left wheel mud guard. It is held in with a bunch of press studs which can be difficult to remove. I found pulling on the plastic mud guard whilst turning the screw helped.
2. unbolt the electric ariel assembly. There is an earth strap that needs to be unscrewed as well.
You should be able to get the ariel out far enough to work on it.
3. Remove chrome plated nut to top end of mast tube.
4. With great anger and force, remove the dead ariel and drive cable from the mast.
It's difficult to get the mast to work unless it's earthed properly.
5. Get you hand inside the wall and remove the ariel face plate. Swear if you have to.
6. Put the ariel mast assembly back into the wall and hook it all up minus the new ariel.
7. Switch your radio on, then put the new ariel into the mast. Gears facing the rear of the car. Switch the radio off, it should retract. If not you may need to push it in a little further.
8. Remove the ariel mast again and slip the chrome nut to top end of mast tube and tighten securely.
9. Ask the spouse to close up whilst you have a beer.
