Hi,

It could be the air gap. If you have one it is mounted on the sink next to the faucet. It is a cylinder about 3 inches high and about 1 inch in diameter (size of a small cup). It is usually stainless steel or chrome in color. You can pull the cap off of the air gap and carefully take the pieces out and clean any debris.

If this does not help the draining then you may have a restriction in the hose from the air gap to the drain, or the dishwasher to the air gap. You can look under the sink and follow the hoses.

Water won't drain from either drawer

Do you have an air gap on the top of the sink? Pull off cover and check for debris. From the bottom of each DW to that air gap, hopefully the air gap is higher. Sometimes DW won't drain when they don't have a head to pump against. For instance, my DW is a regular model and from the pump to the air gap is about 3'. That is what ALL models are designed for.

Check for kinks in hose. Follow hose from under each unit and use your logical head thinking (your brain) to see if it gets to a point where it can drain. Does it go to air gap (mounted on sink) then drain by gravity to a wye shaped fitting under your sink? Does it go from the DW to the garbage disposal? To an open site drain?

Check all. And good luck with the units.

I think you have a clogged line. the drain from the dishwasher goes up to the air gap and also into your sink drain pipe.

Bosch dishwasher SHU4000 problem starting, not draining

Drain problems are almost always going to be a clog. Disconnect the drain hose from the air gap vent at the sink top. Place a bucket under the hose and run the drain cycle. Unit should drain. If not, clog is either in drain hose or under the dishwasher's internal filter. Remove filter. Locate the item causing the clog and remove it. If nothing is found here, the problem will be in the air vent gap filter itself. Disconnect the other hose and remove the air vent gap from the sink. There's a small cap at the top of the filter. Press the clips in to remove the cap. Flush the unit with water or use a thin, long blade screwdriver to remove the debris.

Put it all back together and test again. You should be fine.

Just replaced our disposal and now our dishwasher will not drain. Any suggestions?

If there is an air gap (located in the sink, near the faucet), check to see if it is clogged. Unscrew the top cap and see if there is anything blocking inside. Note: If there is no air gap installed, the dishwasher might not drain properly.

If the drain hose is clogged, the dishwasher will not drain. If there is an air gap installed, it is very common that a hose going from the air gap into the garbage disposer is clogged. Remove and clean the hose. Make sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher.

Note: If you recently had a garbage disposer installed, it is common to overlook removing the drain plug.

Dishwasher doesn't drain completely after full cycle

If there is any blockage in your diposal, water will comes up to the sink, since it happened to me. As soon I installed the air gap then it fixed the problem. No air gap, water flowing is slowing down conflicting with timed draining causing this problem. Let's think of this, if you fill up water in a 1/2 galon milk container, and you try to emty it. If you pull down straightly , it will be slow compared to pull it at an agle to let air going into the opening. The air vent helps water flow better meeting the timed draining.

Air gap valve leak for dishwasher

remove the entire drain hose from the air gap and be sure it is clear, also the dishwasher drain should be going to your disposal, if you chose to use the air gap it should be connected from d/w to air gap then to disposal, todays dishwashers dont need an air gap.

My frigidaire dishwasher routinely leaves some water in the bottom after it is finished washing and the dishes are always wet on the top

HI. check the following areas for faults.

1. Air gap / Drain hoses
If there is an air gap (located in the sink, near the faucet), check to see if it is clogged. Unscrew the top cap and see if there is anything blocking inside. Note: If there is no air gap installed, the dishwasher might not drain properly.

If the drain hose is clogged, the dishwasher would not drain.

2. Broken belt
Some dishwasher models use a belt to drive the pump. Replace the belt if found broken.

Note: Sometimes the belt would just come off the pump. Even though it might not be broken, it is recommended that you replace the belt, because it is probably too stretched out.

3. Pump
Some models have two impellers inside the pump - one, wash impeller, takes care of the wash cycles, the other, drain impeller, drains the water out. If the drain impeller is broken (broken blades, shaft), the dishwasher would not drain. Replace any broken pump components.
