I have an alesis rs 300. It's been used in with relatively low load over the course of ownership.
aRecently one of the channels has been, crackling and cutting in and out. I crank up the volume and the problem ceases, but eventually comes back. I've tried different cords and speakers so I've narrowed it down to channel 2 of the power amp. I haven't opened the unit but I'm suspecting a loose or faulty connection or a component that is going bad. I'm using the 'banana' style connectors plugged into the wiring posts.
Thank you to anybody who has any insight into this problem?
Hi and welcome to FixYa, Initially, it would be doubtful if it were a component that is faulty; otherwise the fault would not be intermittent. A most likely suspect would be cold solder on the power output of channel 2. Cold solder as the term implies is a condition where the solder joints has lost its 'good electrical connection', barely touching or the solder itself has dulled with cracks that has developed. A quick fix is to re-solder the legs of any and all dull colored / grayish solder joints with particular attention to power components and those attached to heatsinks. Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.
Hello Chris. yes, I agree with your diagnosis. If your amp is under warranty do not open it up as this will void the warranty. instead send it in for a warranty repair. If the warranty is up, no worry. Just make sure you know what you are doing, or take it to a reputable repair shop. It will require diagnostic tools, and soldering skills. Joe

O.k. I'll take the lid off and check the soldering and let you know if it's the fix.
Thanks for the insight.
