Question about RCA DRC8335
I would like to Share Few Details with You. This is a Common Error on this Model. Repair would not make any Sense, as the Cost of Repair is Quite High Relatively to the Cost of the New one.
So, if you Could get this Fixed. That would be Perfect unless Seek for a New Player.
First of ALL, try to Reset it. Unplug it for Few Minutes, say 30 Minutes and then Turn it ON. If the Problem Persists, this is an Internal Fault.
You need to Open the Player to get it Fixed. Other thing, i have seen, that this Error Could be Due to Lens. If the Player is Quite Old, Lens could be at Fault. Buy a Cleaning Kit from Radio Shack and use it. Sometimes, it works like Wonder.
If that would not work, Open the Player and look for Lens. I could give you a Picture of Lens.To clean manually unplug from wall and leave two minutes.Remove cover identify the lens as a small round glass lens in the DVD tray assembly.Clean with the glass lens with a cotton bud or similar, use a small amount of isopropyl alcohol or do the clean dry, any other cleaning product could damage the unit.Remove any foreign objects in the unit.Reassemble and test.
If no luck then you will need a new laser assembly I'm afraid.
Now, regarding Caps. Yes, it could be another Problem. When you Open the Player, you would see Caps like :-
If you see, Cylindrical Type Components, all those are Caps. There might be chance that any one of these could be Leaked / Bulged / Swelled. Make sure that there is no Cold Solder Joint and there is no other Broken Component on the Board.
If you find anything Swelled / Leaked / Bulged, you could De Solder and Re Solder the New Caps. The caps could be easily available in the Market. You could buy it Online or you could go to Radio Shack, Fry's.Make sure to Buy a Similar one. I have seen , if you buy a Low Quality Cap, it could again Swelled or Blown.Usually Bad Caps have Ammonia Kind of Odor.
I hope that the above information would be useful for you to Resolve the Problem.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

That means that the unit is not passing the initial POST test, or it is getting stuck at the end of the post, when reading a disk inside the unit.
Ensure that there is no disk inside the unit. Try pressing repeatedly the eject button while starting the unit at the same time.
Try disconnecting power cord for two minutes.
If all that does not work, then the problem is likely a firmware failure.
Firmware for the DRC8335 is not available online. In that case the only thing to do is contacting RCA and asking if a software or firmware release for this unit is available.
To get support from RCA you need to start a support account, then to create an incident. Here how to proceed:

Thanks for using FixYa. It seems that the lens is not reading the disc. To start with try running a lens cleaning disc, if that does not work then you have to open the unit and clean the lens with a Q-tip dipped in alcohol. If still the issue is not resolved then the lens should be replaced however, replacing a lens will cost you around $75 and a new one will cost you around $50. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.
