Laptop cannot aquire network address from wireless router

Using hp pavillion ze2000 and dlink wbr1310. hardwired desktop connection is fine. laptop finds network, when trying to connect, it asks for passkey, which it accepts, then it says its "aquiring a network address", but nothing ever happens after that. it never even gives up and gives an error msg or anything. when checking status, its sending and receiving data packets with the router, but it just cant access the network.

prior to installing, used a hardwired computer to configure router. set network name, passkey, and set to wpa.

any ideas?

If you connect the computer to the router , it works.
That means the wired connection is OK.
Open the set up page of the router check the wireless settings of the router.
I think your network is secured and you are not typing the correct network key.
just open the router set up and check the wireless settings .
Make sure that the DHCP server on the router is enabled

I have the same problem with my 1310. I stoped using it as a router and only use it as a wireless access point, and still same problem. the only solution i found to date is to reboot it. then it works fine for a week or so. I loaded new firmware hoping dlink has solved this annoyance. No such luck.

I am using a dlink model wbr1310 with my desktop. I want to use it with my laptop. would you email me a driver to download to my laptop.

You don't need a driver. If your laptop has wireless capability, you just click on the wireless network that you should have set up with the dlink router and choose "connect." If you have set a passphrase, then you will need to enter that.

Log into the Belkin router and make sure that the DHCP services are running. If it is, and you still are not getting addresses, perform a factory reset of the router. There is a link in the web management console to do this.

Are you talking about network places in a Windows Operating System?

Can you get into your DLink Router?

If you can directly get into the Dlink router, you will be able to determine what the mac addresses of those devices are, in the DHCP list table. You must have the devices on and connected to the network for them to be listed. From within the DLink router, you can also turn on mac filtering.

For exact details, visit dlinks website: www.dlink.com for the support manual for the router.

Wireless router

Yes, you can use wireless router with the modem. I guess the actiontech DSl router that you have is also Wireless one. If so, you can use just the DSL router for wireless connection. If you really want to use Dlink router with it, Connect the ( WAN port ) of the Dlink router to the ( LAN Port ) of the Action tech modem [ modem(LAN)-->Dlink(WAN) ]. Once you do this connection, better to do power cycle ( unplug the pwr to the dlink first, then, disconnect the pwr to action tech - wait 1min and plug the pwr to modem, wait for DSL light to be solid , then put the pwr back to dlink ). Make sure DSL light on the modem solid, internet light & WLAN light on the link glowing.
- Make Hardwire connection between the computer to Dlink and check the ip address on the computer whether it acquires the ip address from Dlink and then check the internet connection on the computer, it has to work. if computer not getting ip from dlink, try restarting computer.
- If hardwire connection on the dlink works fine and check the wireless connection.

For wireless configuration or assistance you may check this link:

please feel free to ask, if you have any more assistance.
