Dead screen/touchpad ipaq 2400 is password protected. At startup, prompted for password, but the screen doesn't seem to know it's being tapped with the pen. Keyboard and OK button visible, but nothing happens when tapping keys.

The touchscreen is most likely damaged, you can open the pda to see if the connectors are ok and so on but here is a replacement part for you

Sometimes you need to reset your iPAQ if, for example, it is not responding to your pressing a button or your tapping the screen. There are two types of resets.
  • Soft Reset - A soft reset stops all running applications, but does not erase any programs or saved data.
  • Factory or Hard Reset - A factory or hard reset clears all user-installed settings, programs, and data, and restores your iPAQ to factory settings.

Performing a Soft ResetPerform a normal or soft reset to stop all running applications, to restart the iPAQ after installing a new application, or if the iPAQ locks up.CAUTION:Make sure to close all running applications before performing a soft reset, since a soft reset erases all unsaved data in such applications.Perform a soft reset using one of these two options.
  • Turn off the iPAQ by holding down the End key.c01118005.jpg1 - End Key
  • Remove the battery of your iPAQ.

Performing a Factory or Hard ResetPerform a factory or hard reset when there is a need to clear all settings, programs, and data from the RAM.CAUTION:Performing a hard reset will return the iPAQ to its default settings and it loses all information (files and settings, among others) that is not recorded in the ROM. Back up all important information or data before performing a hard reset.Follow these steps to perform a hard reset and return your iPAQ to factory settings.
  1. Turn off your iPAQ by holding down the End key.
  2. Then hold down the center of the 4-Way Navigation key and turn on the iPAQ again while continuing to do so.c01118006.jpg1 - 4-Way Navigation Key2 - End Key
  3. A confirmation screen opens asking whether you want to perform a hard reset or not. SelectYes . The iPAQ will reboot with its original factory settings.
NOTE:The applications and data present on your iPAQ before performing the hard reset can be reinstalled by synchronizing your iPAQ with a computer using ActiveSync/WMDC (Windows Mobile Device Center).NOTE:If you don't want the iPAQ playing a tune after you turn it on, create a new text document and save the document as StartUp.wav. Replace this new document with the file on your device.

Windows not Starting Correctly

Hit F12 on startup and then put your Dell system disk in so it will boot from the CD.
When you get the startup, you will be prompted to see if you want to repair with the recovery console. Hit R and wait until it asks for the installation you want to repair. The option #1 should be windows, so hit #1. When it asks for the password, hit Enter (I hope you don't have an admin password, 'cause that's what it is looking for. If you hit enter and you get a c:\windows> prompt, type in the following:
chkdsk /r
After the scan runs, Windows should start. If not, let me know and we can do other stuff.

It keeps restarting on me

Without more details I'm going to make a guess on this. It sounds like you have the HP Protect tools installed. If you do have the HP Protect tools installed and that was the password prompt from HP Protect tools giving you problems, your best solution may be to do a hard reset. I had problems with the **** HP Protect tools and had to hard reset to remove it. NOTE that a hard reset will also clear all the files and data on your pda

Ipaq wont open

The iPAQ will keep cycling through this alignment screen until it registers all five points correctly. Try cleaning the screen with a micro cloth and if necessary a little conventional glass cleaner. Then careful click on each of the X being careful to just click the center and not drag the stylus. Even the smallest movement across the screen will cause the registration process to fail. If that doesn?t work try doing a cold boot and restart the process.
