After speaking to the Dyson helpline I repaired this problem easily. Lay the vacuum on its front. Looking at the pins either side of the red foot pedal you will see they have popped out of the groove into a square pocket. Flex the pedal to guide the pins back into place. This is made easier with a second person pulling the grey frame outwards.

Normally the cause is a broken latch mechanism/foot actuated release. Shut off the machine and shake the unit /tip side to side etc. and see if you hear any loose pieces from with in the lower base of the unit. If you are capable of repairing /looking up a parts manual and installing parts, contact Dyson or a local Dyson repair facility. Good luck

Vacuum cleaner does not work

most upright vaccums have a reset button at lower rear area of the vaccum. operates similar to gfi plug reset, push button back in usually with small screwdriver. is your debris bag to full? power brush jammed with debris? hose plugged? this will cause motor to over heat and in turn kick out reset button. always unplug power cord before putting fingers in areas where moving parts are!!

I cannot express enough you need to clean your dyson as great as it is its still a vaccum. look underneath at roller, clean out tube wash filter and check to see if vaccum ate something which is stuck inside. I have had mine for 4years and still picks up after 2goldens and kids.

Beaters stop when vaccuming rug...didn't when new

I believe you need to change the belt that drives the brushes. When it gets stretched out, it will just spin on the axle of the motor or spin on the brush and smoke.

Bissell vaccum problem

Could be plugged, check the hose and at the bottom by the brush roll, the inlet maybe clogged. Also check the filter under neath the dirt tank. There are filters above the dirt container, clean those out. If after that it is still loud, then maybe the motor fan or bearins are bad and will have to be replaced, part #2031214 sells for around $55.

Release button

There is no button. You are supposed to place your foot on the area above the rolling brush and hold the base down while pulling the handle back.
There is a small metal clip under the vacuum that you should bend out a bit to make it easier to release. Unplug and flip the vacuum over. It is right in the middle between the back wheels. Use a pair of pliers. Don't bend it too far or it won't stay up when you want it to!

Hope this helps!
