Question about HP Hewlett Packard LaserJet 3800 Printer

My cassette tray is stuck and cannot be removed on my HP Laserjet 3800

I fixed it. Had to remove the following parts.

    Front door and duplex assembly
    Top cover and Fuser.
    Left side cover
    Feed assembly

The problem was caused by a tab on the cassette drawer that had snapped. Printer works now, however I probably will get a replacement for the tab.

This should help. Good luck !

Cassette (Tray 2) paper pickup and feed rollers

To remove the paper pickup and feed rollers

1 Remove the cassette.

2 Locate the two rollers on the bottom of the paper pickup unit (above the cassette). The pickup

roller is the smaller roller, and the feed roller is the larger roller.

3 Pinch the tab on the end of the cassette pickup roller (callout 1), and pull the roller out.

4 Pinch the tab on the end of the cassette feed roller (callout 2), and pull the roller out.

Note Always replace the cassette pickup roller and the cassette feed rollers at the same time. Also replace

I have a hp laserjet 4250 printer it had a paper jam in tray 2 i have cleared the jam but it keeps saying i still have the jam in tray 2

There is still paper stuck in the printer. try lifting the printer off of tray 2 to inspect it or here it is straight from the service manual...

Jams in tray 2

Table 7-10 Causes of tray 2 jams

Cause Solution

The feed or separation rollers are dirty, worn, or damaged. Clean the rollers. If they are dirty after cleaning, or if they are

worn or damaged, replace the rollers.

The pickup roller is worn or damaged. Replace the pickup roller.

The tray 2 paper pickup assembly drive gears are damaged

or the assembly is defective.

Check the drive gears in the paper pickup drive assembly.

Replace the pickup drive assembly if the gears are

damaged. See Paper-pickup drive assembly.

The tray 2 pickup solenoid (SL101) is damaged. 1 Disconnect the connector for the tray pickup solenoid

from the dc controller PCA (location J92).

2 Measure the resistance between the cable connectors.

3 If the measured resistance is not approximately

160 ohms for the HP LaserJet 4200/4300, or 110 ohms

for the HP LaserJet 4250/4350, replace the tray 2

pickup solenoid.

The tray 2 lifter-drive assembly or the stack position

sensor (PS107) is defective.

Replace the lifter-drive assembly. See Tray 2 lifter-drive

assembly and/or Printer switches and sensors.

The dc controller PCA is defective. Replace the dc controller PCA. See Dc controller PCA.

Dirty, worn, or deformed pick-up roller, cassette separation

roller, and cassette feed roller.

Clean the rollers if they are dirty. Replace any worn or

deformed rollers. The cassette separation roller and the

cassette feed rollare are to be replaced together.

Damaged gears in the cassette pick-up drive unit. Move the gears in the cassette pick up drive unit. If the

gears are not rotating correctly, or are damaged or worn,
replace the cassette pick-up drive unit.

The printer is printing slow about 15ppm

On the paper cassette tray (Tray 2) there is a blue lever on the right side. The paper tray must be removed prior to this inspection. This lever indicates either custom or standard size paper. Make sure this lever is parallel with the cassette tray side. There is a diagram near this lever indicating where it should be. Meaning this should be set for standard paper. This can slow the printer down dramatically if set at custom when standard letter or legal is in the tray.

Paper pickup in tray 2 not working

This is an issue i've seen many times.

The gear that drives the lower tray barely conacts the gear in the main body.

You cannot buy just the gears, you will have to buy a new option cassette assembly.

If you lift the printer off of the lower cassette you'll see the suspect gears.

Have you would try a different paper cassette.
Usually that clunking noise is associated with gears not mashing.
Is the lifter lifting the platform or not?
There might be something above the paper tray, maybe even the paper input assembly preventing the paper platform from reaching the top.
Check these and let me know what happens.
