I have a Dell Dimension 4600, will a PCI Express sound card work in place of the original Sound Blaster 5.1 sound card

Well, the short answer to your question is "No, it won't work". The Dell Dimension 4600 does not have any PCI Express slots in it, therefore you can't install it, and therefore it won't work. But, if you installed a PCI sound card, it would work. The BIOS would recognize the add-on sound card, disable the onboard sound, and your sound will start going through the expansion card instead. Hope this helps.

New Sound Card is not working.

Ted, the first thing you should do is go into your computer's BIOS and disable the built-in sound card. Once you do that, go back to your device manager and if the onboard sound card still appears there remove or disable it. Then reboot and your new sound card should be recognized and you can install drivers and begin using it.

Sound card problem

Does the Device Manager display this sound card, otherwise try adding hardware to and let it choose the driver automatically thru the net. Try cleaning the slot metal contact points with any clean paper, re-insert and try. If nothing works try any other sound card & if that works then most probably your sound card has got fried. Also if you are using Vista, not all sound cards are recognized by this OS and there is no way of installing a seperate driver...so all the best...........sodeep

PCI card not been detected via Windows.

the sound card is installed into the ISA slot not the PCI slot.
clear the cmos for a minute, set it normal again.
install the sound card to the ISA slot carefully - i mean a working sound card and couple the system unit and boot, surely you will have your sound card working.
