YOU WILL NEED TO UNPLUG THE UNIT AND TAKE OFF THE COVER.

ROTATE THE MOTOR BY HAND UNTIL IT BACKS OFF FROM THE STOP - WHEN IT IS JAMMED NOTHING WILL WORK.

YOU SHOULD HAVE 2 WIRES WITH BLACK TRACE ON THEM 3 WHITE AND 1 RED TRACE.

YOU HAVE THE COLOR CODES RIGHT.

YOU CAN GO TO LIFTMASTER.COM AND DOWNLOAD A MANUAL FOR A SIMILAR UNIT - THEY MAKE THE CRAFTSMAN BUT USE A TOTALLY DIFFERENT MODEL # SYSTEM

HOPE THIS HELPS

You said you adjusted the up limit already. Is it adjusted as far as possible? Usually the screw will become harder to turn. You mention a new door and spring but is the opener the same? My guess is you have a new opener as well and it is out of sync with the trolley. Try turning the up limit back and see if the trolley will stop shorter. If it does, loosen the chain or belt so that you can remove if from the opener's drive gear. Bring the trolley to your stop limit and put the chain/belt back on the gear. Adjust the chain/gear tension and try door operation again. If it was a sync problem, the door should close closer to your limit. Adjust up and down travel as necessary to fine tune it. This worked for me so good luck.

I have a Craftsman garage door opener (model 139.53637SRT - 1/2 HP) that stopped working. It sounds like the motor runs, but the chain and trolley do not move at all

When i press the key only the chains move leaving the door still up

Sounds like the trolley has been released from the door. Pull straight down on the release rope and let go. When the two halves of the trolley are lined up they should catch and the door will work.

I am having a problem with my garage door opener. It just clicks. Its a craftsman opener. The lights are on but it does not move when the button is pressed.

If your door is stuck in the open position it is probably because the trolley is jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor. If so, loosen the chain enough to release the pressure on the trolley and run the opener until the door is closed. With the door closed locate the 'up limit' control on the side of the motor unit and turn this control 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Tighten the chain.

That lever that the red handle pulls down is made to catch in the unlatched position. You can pull down on it again, and then pull the cord for and aft (parallel to the chain rail) and let it snap back up. Then either run the trolley or move the door and it will click back in.

Craftsman garage door opener 1/2 hp will not open door

It sounds like your chain is out of sync with the limit switches. Loosen the chain enough so that you can remove it from the sprocket on top of the motor unit. Now run the opener until the sprocket runs counterclockwise and stops. Now with everything attached and the door in the open position replace and tighten the chain. You are now in sync. You may need to tweak the up and down limit controls which are on the side of the motor unit.

How is the chain supposed to be aligned

sync the motor. the gear kit tells you how. get motor up and position trolley near motor, assuming you left chain/cable attached to trolley). Get motor up by running motor and then pushing button again. if motor reverse, let it run and it will stop in up position.

Sears garage door opener, chain adjustment

Loosen the inner nut on the trolley. (That is the lock nut). Then tighten the outer nut on the trolley to increase tension. The outer nut on the trolley is closest to the garage door. The chain tension should be 1/2 inch off the rail at midspan. (The chain is fastened to a threaded bolt on to the trolley. The threaded bolt has an inner and outer nut). Hope this helps.

Opener will not reverse

FIRST YOU NEED TO RESET THE CHAIN .

Unplug power
Release the door from the opener close the door manually. take the chain loose and slide the traveler down to reengage with the trolley. Plug in power, run the unit with chain off untill it completes a clockwise cycle and stops. reconnect the chain and set tension.

Adjust the chain tension.

If it still moves 6-8 inches and flashes 5 times. the problem is in the rpm sensor.
