You probably have either a shorted base thermostat on the base of the chassis of the oven or a shorted fan relay on the control circuit board.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

We have the service / repair manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here for free download to help you.

The base thermostat (which I believe has thinner pink and yellow wires attached, but not thicker black wires) should read normally open. If it shows continuity (virtually zero ohms or shorted) then it is bad.

Otherwise, I would say you have a shorted fan relay on the control circuit board.

We regularly repair such control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so with a one-year guarantee.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

You either have a shorted exhaust fan thermostat or a shorted fan relay on the control circuit board.

While we regularly repair these controllers by mail for $39.95 postpaid with a one-year guarantee, or you can order a new control circuit board (part number) from the Pros here, we strongly suggest that you or someone you know check the exhaust fan thermostat first.

It should read "open" on a continuity (ohms) test. If it reads closed (shorted) it is bad and the fan will run all the time.

Or you can simply unplug the oven's power, disconnect one lead from the thermostat, tape it over to prevent shorting, then plug the oven back in. If the fan still comes on, the problem is on the board. If it does not, the thermostat is shorted.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

Lights under microwave went out. Replaced the bulbs and bulbs work fine, however, now the "surface light button" will not work. Pushing the button will not turn off the lights. Lights continuously stay on...

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan, cooling fan, turntable, and/or inside light operation, too.

No lights or fan

If you mean that when you press Start and try to cook, the inside light and internal cooling fan are not working and it is not running, you may have trouble with a door switch or door switch mount. See this file.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, & testing.

Accessing some parts may require you to pull the oven from the wall and remove the cover.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

Whirlpool model number mh117oxsb-o Microwave shuts down after a few seconds,

When you hit "Start" to microwave, do the inside light, cooling fan, and turntable all come on?

When I say internal cooling fan, I do not mean the hood vent exhaust fan which you can turn on and off manually.

I'm instead talking about the internal fan which comes on automatically whenever you microwave.

It is vital that the cooling fan runs, or the turntable and stirrer won't work, and magnetron will soon be destroyed.

If not, then you probably have a bad door switch or door switch mount and should see these files:

http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/disassembly.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/doorsw.txt

If so, then your magnetron may be failing or the cooling fan itself may be.

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are operating here.

If your under hood lamps recently went out, that surge could have damaged the control circuit board, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

Model JVM1443 fan runs all the time when unit is

The top door switch (door sensing switch) is defective, or its mount is loose or broken.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

If the switch mount is broken, it's usually more economical and safer to add a dab or two of hot glue to the mount to secure the switch. Let it cool for about 30 minutes before using.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.
