U need to turn the mower on it's side and see what is locking up the belt, that is what the noise is, the other solution would be the belt is very loose from age and needs to be replaced, so check that as well.

1) started up my mower for the spring and it was working fine and then died. I changed the spark plug, got new gas, jumped it and it starts fine. Well it starts good but it wont move now. The only thing I did was pull out the latch to make it easier to push and put it back in. Now the thing wont go into any gear. Whats the problem? Belt looks a little old but fine and connected to all the pully wheels. 2) I am assuming it is an automatic transmission. Are you sure that you got the latch back into the right position? Out for pushing and in for driving. The other thing to do is to purge the transmission.

Disengage the transmission. Latch out.

With the engine running slow in neutral let the clutch out, move the shift lever to full forward for five seconds then to full reverserse for 5 seconds. Do this three times.

Turn off the engine and engage the transmission, latch in.

With the engine running 1/2 speed and in neutral disengage the clutch.

Slowly move the shift lever to forward and move about 5 feet, slowly move the shift lever to reverse and move about 5 feet, return shift lever to neutral, repeat 3 times.

This will purge the transmission.

Hope this helps.

Also, make sure that the drive belt is turning the transmission pulley.

it could be but if it kept going with the clutch in i would guess the belt is the wrong one or it was put on incorrectly. not saying you don't know what you are doing but it happens a lot where the belt was routed wrong and did the same thing you are saying. be sure it is routed correctly.

Sounds like you have the belt running in the opposite direction. You need to Change the way the belt is routed around the pulleys

My Weedeater riding lawn mower will not move when it is in drive or reverse

Check your drive belt that it has not slipped off the drive cog under the motor. Also check the alignment of the motor with the handle on the right side (speed, reverse, and neutral lever).. This lever tilts the engine to engage the drive belt.. there is no transmission in this machine.. just how the belt engages by its angle when you push the lever forward and backward.. If the engine is running, it must be either the belt to drive the unit or the angle has been messed up somehow..

My Weedeater riding lawn mower will not move in forward or reverse after it has started

Check your drive belt that it has not slipped off.. also check your drive lever on the right side (speeds, neutral, and reverse). The mower uses this lever to angle the motor against the belt to move it..

It is most likely the belt or the angle misaligned if the engine is turning...
