"Suggested Resolution -
1) Determine if a conflict exists by removing an expansion card (Not a graphics card) and restarting the computer.

2) If the problem persists, reinstall the card you removed, then remove a different card and restart the computer"

When my dell c521 is powerd, it hangs after the dell screen loads and hands at the phonix bios screen.the 3 lights in front all stand on, so it does not boot into windows.what is the problem pls


It means that the video cannot be displayed on your monitor. Either your monitor is bad or your video card is bad. If you do not have a video (PCI) card installed then you are using the integrated video circuit built into your motherboard. If that's the case, you need to replace the motherboard.

Per Dell's support site: If the power light is a solid amber, a device might be malfunctioning or incorrectly installed.

Turn off the computer and unplug from power:

I would remove and unplug everything except the memory and video card. Then plug the computer back in.
If it posts (dell screen and then a hard drive warning), turn off the computer and start reinstalling each component one at a time and turn on between each install. Hopefully one compenent will fail and you will know what is bad and needs replacing.
If the computer still had the amber light, remove one of the memory modules (hoping you have 2) and try again. If it still fail exchange the modules. If this works you have a bad memory chip, reinstall the rest the componets to double check and power on. Replace the bad chip.
If the computer still fails on both modules, remove both, you should now get a memory beep code, if not then the video card is most likely bad and will need to be replace.

Solid amber light with fan running, so i assume the power good signal is being received, no diagnostic lights and no POST. I've disconnected and substituted all the drives with known good parts, bought new...


Please let me know if the numlock light responds by pushing the numlock key on the keyboard. If you are using a videocard, please disconnect it and connect the video cable to the integrated video. Make sure you disconnect all the expansion cards. Please let me know if this doesn't work.

My dell c521 wont start i have green power light on and number 4 is light up green the fan is also running high


Pretty Much General basic troubleshooting.
  1. Disconnect all external connections except the power, see if error changes. If it does, connect items 1 at a time till issue is isolated
  2. Remove all Expansion cards, see if any change
  3. Disconnect all drives from MB and power supply, see if any chage.
At this point if nothing has changed, replace the motherboard.

Generally, the 1 and 2 Diagnostic LEDs indicate a failure of a PCI expansion card.

So remove any expansion cards, see if anything changes. If it does, one of the PCI cards is suspect.
If the system has an expansion video card in the PCI-E slot, and removing the PCI cards had no effect, remove the PCI-E video card and connect to the intergrated video port (You may have to remove a black cover from the port) and see if you get video. If you do, then the Expansion video card has failed.

Computer hangs at the Dee Logo


Look at the description for the diagnostic lights on a Dell 2400 here under "A possible expansion card failure has occurred."

If you have recently installed any card (wireless, sound, etc.), then this would be my first suspect.

It appears that your video circuit has a problem, not the monitor but the graphics card or on board graphics controller.

Dell c521 won't start


- disconnect the hdd and optical drive cables, remove the expansion card, reseat the atx and 12v cable and turn the computer on. if the power led is glowing green connect the devices on by to find what device is causing the no post issue. after the strip down if the power button is still yellow replace the motherboard
