Hi.

The STOP 0xC00002 errors occur when either Winlogon.exe or Csrss.exe fails. This are among the first processes loaded on startup. This is caused by a number of reasons. I will try listing them all.

1) Windows is installed on top of a corrupted version, or the hard disk is corrupted.

To fix this format the hard drive. If you need to save your files first, use a boot disk. Here an example:Ultimate Boot CD

2) The Windows install disk is damaged.

If possible test using a different disk. A damaged disk may finalize installation, with problems starting after install is complete.

3) There is an hardware conflict

This is probably the most difficult to troubleshoot. If you have two RAM modules you can try repeating the installation or restarting the computer, after removing the modules one at the time. Other problems can be diagnosed using DrWatson utility, as explained on the article below.
You can troubleshoot hardware problem following instructions here.

4) You have problems related to SATA disk settings.

Windows XP install disk does not have built in SATA drivers. If your computer uses a SATA hard disk, then you can open the BIOS page and try setting the hard disk to IDE mode.

If you are getting this error when trying to reinstall from your XP cd, then it sounds like you have a loose damaged or incorrect cable to either your cdrom or hard drive. I suggest replacing them both with quality 80 wire 40 pin IDE cables. It can also be caused by incorrect configuration if you have RAID or SATA drives.
Finally you may want to try with just one stick of RAM installed. If you have more than one now; you should try each in the slot nearest the processor all by itself until you rule out one of them being bad (If it works with one stick and not the other, you know the other is bad).

There is more information on possible causes of this error at ahuma ; but my first suspicion on seeing the image checksum mismatch is that the file in question has been replaced with something else, a trojan or virus.

STOP C0000221 erro de hardware desconhecido systemroot system32 ntdll.dll

You may receive one of the following stop error messages while working on your Windows XP computer.
STOP: C0000221 unknown hard error
Path\File_nameSTOP: 0xC0000221 unknown hard error
C:\Winnt\System32\Ntdll.dll (or another specific file or driver)
STOP: 0xC0000221 STATUS_IMAGE_CHECKSUM_MISMATCH
Path\File_name
Note: The error message may be discussed in many different formats-blue screen or message box. It depends on when the corrupt file was detected.
Similarly, you may receive the following STOP messages when a critical system file fails to load on your Windows NT and Windows 2000 computer.
STOP: C0000221 unknown hard error
<path>\<file_name>STOP: 0xC0000221 unknown hard error
c:\winnt\system32\ntdll.dll
Note: Some other drive may also be given in the message.
On Windows 2000 the following error message may display:
STOP: 0xC0000221 STATUS_IMAGE_CHECKSUM_MISMATCH
<path>\<file_name>
You usually face this problem when an incorrect driver for one or more hardware is installed on your system. For instance, the error messages described above are displayed when you install a millions of instructions per second (MIPS) driver on a x86 system.
Cause of the Error
This error occurs if the file given in the error message is damaged.
Your Windows XP operating system checks the following files for integrity during system startup:
  • All driver files, excluding the files that loaded using the system loader to start your system .
  • All DLL (Dynamic Link Libraries) on the system. These include, Graphics Driver Interface (GDI), User, Ntdll, Crtdll, Shell, Kernel and several other DLL files on the system.
  • On Windows NT and 2000 computers, all DLLs loaded in the Window server address space are also checked.
The problem may also occur if an Iomega Zip drive is connected to the same cable as your hard disk drive.
Resolution Method
You can resolve this issue by removing the corrupt driver from your computer and then reinstalling a fresh and healthy copy of the driver. You may need to use the Device Manager utility to remove the driver. It is recommended that you clean your registry with the help of a reliable tool, such as RegGenie to ensure that all entries related to the uninstalled driver are removed from the system. After you have completely removed the corrupt driver, restart your system and install a fresh copy of the driver on the system.
If this step does not resolve the problem, you may have to reinstall Windows XP.
It is recommended that you regularly clean your registry with the help of a registry cleaner tool and perform antivirus and antispyware scan using tools, such as Antivirus Plus and StopZilla to prevent such errors from occurring on your system.

GOOD LUCK :-)

Help

Greetings,

When you upgrade your computer to Windows XP, you may receive an error message that is similar to one of the following: C0000221 (Bad Image Checksum)
-or- STOP: C0000221 - Bad Image Checksum in ModuleName
-or- STOP: C0000221 - Bad Image Checksum. User32.dll is possibly corrupt. The header check sum does not match the computed check sum.

Unknown Hard Error

It's probably a corrupted file on the hard drive due a variety of reasons. A simple defrag might fix it but it's unlikely, so it is probably preferable to a Repair function from your XP install CD. These kinds of errors with XP were not uncommon. After the Repair assuming it works and I'm fairly certain that it will, defrag your hard drive and then start getting the new updates for your system.
