Be sure that the ribbon is properly installed and that there are no folds in it.

IBM Wheelwriter 2, the bottom half of the letters are not printing. It is not the ribbon because I have changed it out.

Two things come to mind for this problem. First try pushing down firmly on both ends of the black rubber platen roller. Sometimes the black plastic latch on either side may break causing one side of the roller to lift up causing partial print. The other possibility is the ribbon is not lifting correctly. A technician can adjust the ribbon lift. After typing a few letters, take the ribbon out and look at the letters on the ribbon. Are they in the middle of the ribbon or are they at the top or bottom of the ribbon? middle of ribbon is correct.

Cutting of bottoms of letters

It could be that the ribbon is folded over.
Take the ribbon out and look at it. If it's folded pull it out a ways and turn the knob to take it in until the fold is gone.
Also check that it is installed correctly. There are two tabs on the bottom of the ribbon that go into slots on the ribbon plate where it sits. Then it should "click into place so that you have to move the release lever to get it out. If it still prints off the ribbon, it will need an adjustment.

Wheelwriter 30 series II. was typing OK but now get only less than half of letter to print. replaced ribbon same thing. tried adjusted ribbon (now sure was in right area) and still only printing less...

If it is printing only the tops of the letters the platen has worked loose. Press down firmly on both ends it should snap into place. If the print is generally bad the plastic print solenoid cap is probably broken. We sell them for 20.00 includes shipping and instructions.

When typing the very top of the letter or number is cut off.

First look at the ribbon, be sure that there isn't creased or folded. If the ribbon is old the edges will have have places where it will not print. If everything seems OK there is a ribbon lift adjustment on the front side if the printer just under the ribbon deck. You will need a 9/32 wrench and a skinny flat blade screw driver.

Please check the ink ribbon. There are two types of ribbons. The plastic one can be used once and if you try it the second time then there is no guarantee that all letters will appear fine and legible. (as may be happening in your case). The other is the cloth ribbon. This can be reused and it keeps fading as you keep repeating it. But in this case all letters are faded and nor selective.

My printer has stopped printing the letters onto the dvd properly

1. Remove lid/top
2. Move blue lever left or right to unlock ribbon roll
3. Loosen ribbon or tighten as needed -
NOTES: If ribbon roll is too tight it will show wrinkles; it should look smooth if positioned correctly; if too tight it will not print portions of some letters; keep re-positioning if this does not work after first try.
4. Use flat-head screw driver to adjust front uptake (used) ribbon-roll as needed to make it smooth too. Lift out & re-position, if you need to.
THIS WORKED FOR ME but I had to re-do my re-positioning of both rolls several times before it began printing 100% of letters again. 4bb240d8-5e9d-4611-9ca4-33b5883e40b9.jpg 5a5b4381-7ee8-480f-943e-041aa738011d.jpg c86d59ae-1b7e-4755-b895-08007064e847.jpg Journal Kentucky Lexington Monitor www jklm us

To my knowledge the 999 ribbon is the best avaivable. Try these things. put a little light (WD40 works well) oil on the back side of the print solenoid, then perss code and "Q" the display will show 1,2 or 3 set it at 3 and then try code "B" for bold print. These should help.

Typing close to top of ribbon

I aqssume that the top of every third letter is missing. There is an adjusting screw under the L. ribbon spool howerer you need a very small spline wrench to a make. it.

Look at the ribbon and see if the letters are on the very top of th ribbon. If so on the front of the carrier there is an eccentric screw for adj. ribbon height. Loosen the lock nut W/ a small 9/32 wrench and adj screw to raise ribbon. Be sure to check L/O with the underscore as you can get it to high.
