Question about JVC FS-V30 CD Shelf System

1 Answer

SP-UXV30 speakers I would like to replace damaged 4cm tweeters on the JVC UX-V30 shelf system. The speakers have a 4 ohm impedance and rated at 26W each. They each have a 4cm tweeter with 8 ohm marking on it and a 9 cm woofer with a 4 ohm marking on it, linked with a crossover cap. Any idea as to the power handling (W) of the tweeter or what I can safely replace them with. Any info appretiated. pjsales

Hi,

Offhand, the tweeter can be rated similarly to that of the woofer but not lower than 26 watts. I think your concern should also include the physical mounting and size since most branded units would be using proprietary components/parts and are not readily available.

Most electronics parts store would be carrying "generic" tweeters and "as per sample" would be your best basis. If I understand it right, **** Smith in Australia would be similar to Raon Stores in the Philippines or Akihabara in Japan.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

What ohm and watt speakers can I use with a craig CM402 cd am fm player? It came without them

Speaker requirements are likely to be 8 ohm, most modern hi-fi speakers are. A few low-fi systems have used special high impedance speakers and the old hi-fi standard for valve amplifiers was 15 ohm and 3 ohm or lower has been used in televisions a lot.

4 ohm speakers are commonly used where a higher power output is desired at the cost of some quality of sound reproduction but depending on how the sound is listened to can soon overload some amplifiers primarily designed for 8 ohm as it will try and deliver more power into the lower impedance speakers and perhaps exceed the rating.

8 ohms is a safer choice. The lower the wattage rating of the speakers the more efficiently they tend to be able to reproduce sound at low volume levels so for background music in a small domestic environment the average power requirement will be in the order of half a watt so even with a high powered amplifier the volume would rarely be turned up above 1 - 2 on the typical scale of 10 and ten watt speakers would be more than adequate. It is unfortunate that it is almost impossible to obtain quality speakers rated at such an unfashionably low power rating.

With the stiffer cones of a higher power rated speakers the volume has to be turned higher before the speakers become efficient and listening at low levels can be difficult. In a domestic environment a 50 watt rating is perhaps the best compromise as if there are neighbours to consider a ten watt average power output will be sufficient even if the amplifier is capable of higher powers. Just don't turn the volume up more than necessary.

The greater the power rating the more power will be required for efficient reproduction. For electrical and mechanical safety of the speakers the rating should exceed the maximum output of the amplifier but listening at low levels with quality of sound can become virtually impossible.

It is all a matter of taste and environment.

A replacement tweeter for Yamaha S215V speaker

I generally get replacements from Simply Speakers. Their site is-Replacement by Simply... Genuine Eminence Parts New
You can also just replace the diaphragm. The procedure is on YouTube here-

Be sure you check what impedence you need. If you look at the lable on the driver it will normally say, but if not ask them about your specific cabinet. For instance the 8 ohm single 15" Yamaha Club Series 4 uses a 16 ohm driver in their 8 ohm box.

What is the impedance of the midrange speaker and the tweeter speaker in the Pioneer cs r5100 ? I have the crossovers and the woofers I use for my front channels (L&R)

If you are running three 8 ohm speakers in parallel then the total impedance would be 2.667. If running two 8 ohm and one 6 ohm speaker in parallel you would have 2.4 ohms. This will burn out your amp pretty quick. And very possible won't play at all. Though I have never attempted to play a home amp down that low in ohms. Guessing you may have an older model Denon type amp.

Need a new stereo to work with the old speakers

Any 5.1 surround system will work with this. It is better to be high in impedence than too low.

My jvc mx-d622t shelf stereo simply stopped working. No power at all , Course I do have 6 speakers hooked up to it, just added the third pair the day before it stopped working.

Are these speakers compatible or are you just adding speakers because you have them hanging around?

If you have effectively less than 6 ohms of impedance on any channel you may run into problems and the unit may either die or protect itself by refusing to stay ON.

It's fairly obvious that if you do X and undesired Y happens you might want to UNdo X and rethink it.

6 ohn wharfedale speakers on an 8 ohm TEAC amp (both old) - will that work

Yes. Most if not all speakers have impedances which vary with frequency and are rated at a nominal or average impedance. So a manufacturer who rates their speakers at 6 ohms may be more honest or chooses to quote it at a specific frequency. So a nominal 8 ohm speaker may actually measure 4 ohms at 100Hz and 12 ohms at 500Hz but averages somewhere nearer 8 ohms. It is normal for most speaker manufacturers to simplify their ratings so speakers which average at say 6 ohms would be categorised as 8 ohm, and 4.9 ohm averaged speakers as 4 ohms.

As a point of interest - some amplifiers are specified as providing their maximum power at impedances of 6 ohms, and there fore some speaker makers (including those made by same manufacurer as amplifier) will rate their speakers at 6 ohms so they appear more compatible.

Car speakers

I take it that you are running it off a factory head unit and your not getting enough drive on the new speakers. Are the new speakers a component splits? Does it come with a separate tweeters and crossover? If so... are the new speakers 4 Ohm Impedance? Coz the only thing i could think of is that these new speakers you have must have a higher impedance than that of the previous drivers. the higher the impedance the less sensitive. Your can try to match speakers impedance usually head unit is at 4 Ohm. Please let me know how you went. Cheers
