Go to bios, choose second optin, find disk boot priority, select your externel hard disk and click the minus button on the right side of your keyboard so it will be recoghised as the second hard disk. save and exit.

If your computer is working and you want an external hard drive to save to-- open the computer and with the external hard drive switched off, plug in the usb cables. turn on the hard drive and the computer will recognize it as a plug in unit and search for the correct driver
it may ask for a disc for installation or search on line ( use the disc in the cd drive in the computer)
from there the wizard will install the external hard drive

Transferring Win 7 from laptop to external

You cant do that. The only thing I have seen and tried is to create an image of Windows 7 on a thumb drive, and it was not an easy task.
I suggest to get an external DVD drive, plug it into the PC and install. . . . . . . . Hey wait a minute!, I just noticed "my PC has a DVD player only". if its a DVD player and not a CD player, it will read the Windows 7 DVD, you may have to change the Boot Priority setting for the PC to boot from DVD before booting from the hard drive.

Toshiba external drive won't instal on Windows 7 Home Premium

Will the external drive work on another computer? Has the external drive been dropped, bumped, jarred? If it works on another computer, shut down the Win7 laptop, unplug, remove battery, remove the USB external plug, plug into AC, reboot, when it is finished, plug in USB.

My laptop wnt boot up no matter safe mode or the other start menu's what am i to do

Do you have an external CD or DVD drive to plug into it? If so, and if you have a Windows installation disk, you can boot from the disk and do a chkdsk scan on the drive to make sure the drive doesn't have errors. If the drive doesn't have errors, you'll need to do a rebuild of the operating system.

If the drive did have errors and chkdsk says it fixed them, try booting into windows again.

If it still won't boot, do the OS rebuild.

If it reports there is no hard drive, you've got bigger issues and will need to have the unit repaired.

My computer don't start after connect with my WD

From the FAQ section of the manual:

Q: Why won't my PC boot when I connect my USB drive to the computer before booting?
A: Depending on your system configuration, your computer may attempt to boot from your WD portable USB drive. Refer to your system's motherboard BIOS setting documentation to disable this feature or visit support.wdc.com and see Knowledge Base answer ID 1201. For more information about booting from external drives, refer to your system documentation or contact your system manufacturer.

I hope this helps! Please rate my reply. Thank you.

Turing device on interferes with computer startup and operation

Educated guess
(assuming you are connecting to a PC with some version of WIndows, XP or greater):

Many PC's now a days allow booting from an external USB device. If you have this plugged in an on when you power the machine on you PC may be trying to boot from it.

You have two choices.

1) Do not plug the drive in to the USB port until the PC has booted and is completely up and running. Then make the USB connection and see if it is recognized by the PC (this is a good test in any event). It may take a few minutes for the default drivers to be loaded and installed.

-- or --

2) Go into the BIOS and disable booting from external USB devices. If #1 helps you out I would not bother with this option unless you know have experience working with the BIOS.

Cannot boot to dos

You must be sure that the "USB boot" functionality is supported and enabled on your PC BIOS, otherwise the drive won't boot. Furthermore, be sure that the floppy disk you are trying to boot to is bootable in the first place, otherwise you can check some nice "boot disks" on (guess what?) BootDisk.com

Enjoy ;-)

That's normal, the node is recognizing the external drive. If it's during boot up it will look for a bootable partition on the external drive if its given 1st priority in the cmos.
