Spotmau is a great program and not only for recovery so It's a great choice! However I had the same problem with booting. (I'm using Windows XP as well)
Here is what I did and I hope it will help you: 1. You will need to get an extra harddrive. 2. Boot and install XP on the harddrive. 3. Have both drives installed on your CPU. 4. Using Spotmau copy the recovered data from one drive to the other. 5. Boot the drive in the traditional fashion (data will now be lost). 6. Copy the data. on the fresh drive.
Hope this helps, Traian

If you can hear the hard drive spinning you have a chance of recovering the data. The only program I have known to recover the data is `Easy Recovery Professional` Once the data is recovered you may be able to format the drive.

You can recover data from formatted hard drive with data recovery software. But you can't get your data back for free. However, there are a few honest software publishers that can get the data back for a discounted fee, though. I know that Tenorshare Data Recovery is only $24.95 right now, which is pretty cheap in my opinion.I used it and it worked. Get it from

My acer aspire one netbook all of a sudden went to back screen and white lettering saying no bootable device--insert boot disc and press any key. how do i fix this without a disc because i have no cd/dvd...

Normally when this happen this is a sign that ether there is a problem with the harddrive or the data on it just got corrupted. If you have access to another computer you can try to connect the drive from your notebook to it to see if you can access some the data.

Note if you can access the data and your notebook had Windows 7 or Vista on it you will need a computer with one of those to recover all your data. In addtion you will need to follow the steps at this link to get access to the files in your user profile.

Now if you are not able to access your data this most likely means the drive is bad. Try to do a full format on the harddrive on the other computer. If it works then this means that the drive most likely is good. Note do not do a quick format as this will not fully test the drive.

As for the recover disk since you do not have a ROM drive for your computer you will need to contact ACER and/or look on their site to get the restore program. Then you can install this on a USB thumb drive and this restore your computer.

Let me know if you have any more problems or questions

Can you help me get my docs from an old computer now with a hard drive problem to a new computer?

Welcome to Fixya

You can recover data from your harddrive but depends on the extent of the damage of the harddrive. If it is just a corrupted file system and its nothing booting up then all you need to do is to take out the hardrive and put it in a usb enclosure then plug it to the new computer then start copying your files. Here's an article on how to recover data on your harddrive.

Nltdr missing

How To: Fix "NTLDR is missing"

Applies to: Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP

When you start your computer, you receive the error message "NTLDR is missing. Press any key to restart."

The error message "NTLDR is missing" means that the Windows boot loader (NT Loader, NTLDR) cannot be found. This oftenoccurs when the computer tries to boot from a drive other than the one Windows is installed on, due to a change in the driveconfiguration or because you left a bootable disk in a removable drive. But it may also be because the NTLDR file has beencorrupted or deleted.

SolutionCheck the boot drives

First, check the boot drives to make sure that the computer is not trying to boot from a different drive to the one thatcontains Windows.

  • Check that there are no CDs or DVDs in the CD/DVD drives.
  • Check that no removable drives are plugged in to the USB ports.
  • Check the boot order in the BIOS Setup to ensure that the computer boots from the drive containing Windows before any other bootable devices.

If this does not resolve the problem, you will have to repair the NT boot loader.

The easiest way to fix the "NTLDR is missing" error is to use Spotmau PowerSuite. However, if your computer is using Windows XP and you have a Windows XP installation CD you may be able to boot from this anduse the Recovery Console to fix NTLDR manually instead.

Use Spotmau PowerSuiteInsert the Spotmau PowerSuite CD and start the computer. The main menu will appear.spotmau-2.gif
  • Click 2. Windows Recovery.
  • When the Windows Recovery tool starts, click Windows NT/2000/XP/2003.
  • On the Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 Recovery dialog, click Recover NTLDR and NTDETECT.
  • On the Recover NTLDR and NTDETECT dialog, select your operating system (e.g. Windows XP) and then click Recover.

The tool will repair the file and report "NTLDR and NTDETECT have been recovered successfully."

  • Remove the Spotmau PowerTools CD from the drive and click Restart to reboot the computer.
