Question about Ricoh Aficio 250 Copier

1 Answer

When I try to copy it goes through the process but then the wrench lights up and it actually doesn't print anything. the paper goes through but nothing is on it. It says to try turning off the machine and try again I did this and no wrench sign but then when I print it does the same thing and the wrench sign comes up again. It did make a very strange sound when this happened, almost like a whirring, belt not working kind of sound, though I don't even know if there is a "belt" in it? I'm not very savy when it comes to this kind of stuff but it's so expensive to have someone come out and look at it and I don't even know if it is fixable. it has been working great til now. Any troubleshooting suggestions? Q

Whenever you get the wrench light there should be an SCxxx (x=3 numbers) code in the display. The problem you are describing tho sounds exactly like a laser motor failure. If this is the case you should see either an SC320, 321 or 322 code.
If so you are looking at between $200 to $400 to fix the machine depending on your local service options.
If this is not the code you are getting, just reply with the code so we can assist you further.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Cant figure out how to loosen AC belt, goes around

I would first determine where the bolts are for the ac compressor and loosen them until the belt slides off.

Or, I know this may sound goofy, but you can get a breaker bar and socket or a large wrench and turn the crankshaft while putting a large flat screwdriver in between the v-belt and one side of the v of the pulley, and TURRRRRN it slowly until the screwdriver wedged in there actually takes the belt off (with turning).

That's a trick to use, but inspect the belt for damage afterward, or replace the belt if it is damaged in the process, which it usually is not.

Hope that helps.

Activation error

The problem is Vista see's your second format as a second partition on the hard drive. It never gave you a clean format, and just internally added another partition. I solved the problem by formatting with a copy of XP and just stopping the process after the format was completed. Partition Magic works just as good to give you a clean format. Because you should format first with your older copy of windows, if you have more than one partition is the reason for the error. Vista see's your first copy as the older copy and just gives you a second partition.
Being actually in the second partition is why you get the error when you try to activate the actually second copy too. It actually trying to activate your copy but, the copy of the activated copy (your first copy), is still activated and is still on your hard drive and working.
The two NTSC formats for Xp and Vista are not the same, and is really why this error happens.

No red dot

I have had two Millett (made by Bushnell) scopes fail to "light-up" -- the usual symptom is that you turn on (or try to) the "light" (actually, a laser diode) and nothing happens or it goes on but goes off again when you shoot or bump the gun for any reason. I discovered the reason: There is a ring under the battery screw-cap that gets loose.
To repair:
  1. Take off the battery and remove the battery.
  2. You will find a ring that surrounds the battery that is loose.
  3. Remove that ring by unscrewing it the rest of the way -- this is so that you can apply a drop of blue Loctite.
  4. Screw that ring back in -- if you use Loctite, you won't have to really tighten it. If you choose not to use Loctite, it probably will loosen again no matter how tight you get it. To really tighten, you need a spanner wrench with pins (one scope) or thin blades (the other scope). I used a small Allen wrench and small screwdriver, respectively, in lieu of a spanner wrench.
  5. 5. Replace battery and cover. The Loctite needs at least 10 minutes to set before firing; 24 hours for a full cure.

Obviously, it you are at the range, simply retighten the ring so you can continue shooting and do the Loctite when you have more time.

My Sony A100. When connected to a computer via the USB cable, the camera no longer goes into transfer mode.

I just had the same problem tonight, actually. It's because I just started using the Memory Stick Pro Duo Adaptor for compactflash slot. Make sure the camera is not plugged into the usb slot. Go to menu, go to settings tab (the wrench icon on top), down twice to "Transfer Mode" and select PTP. If it doesn't work you can always change it back. I noticed also that in PTP mode, it might not let you delete images after copying. ??
That's all I have at the moment. Good luck.

No sound coming through when recording from hi fi tape to computer

This is actually simple to do. Connect the line out on your tape player to the line in on your computer. Then download a free program, from the net called Audacity at The program is totally free and works great. Some recording studios use this program. In the middle of the main Window on Audacity set it to record from Line in. This is from the small drop down menu next to the little microphone icon. Then hit the record button on Audacity and play your tape. You can record each song individually or you can record the whole side of the tape at once and separate the tracks when you save them. You can even use this program to clean up the sound on your recordings. I have transferred many of my tapes and records to CD using this process. I hope I have been helpful and good luck
