Hi nickmale09. The answer is yes. because getting a new screen + labor can be pricey. You can connect an external monitor and pressing FN + (either F5 or F8 twice, it's the one that has the little monitor), and you will get the screen on the external monitor. I hope this helps and please dont forget to rate and provide positive feedback for our free support today. Thank you :D

Have you tried an external monitor?

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If the display shows on the external monitor that proves your video card is ok and your lcd screen is the issue. The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If is shows on the external monitor, then you would have to question if the new screen and lcd inverter is bad. Just because they are new don't mean they work. Are you sure you purchased the lcd screen and inverter that is for your model?

Gateway 5150 - computer screen stays black, screen works fine, just very very dark - can't seem to adjust luminosity?

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barelysee the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

My screen went black

most of the cases is due to the inverter.. the inverter is located inside the notebook.. worst case is due to the main board.. try hooking up to external monitor, and if there is a display.. then most probably is the inverter faulty..

Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop monitor is dark.

It is a posible LCD problem, Might gone defective.

First trouble shooting is to turn off your laptop completele and the remove the battery and the charger and any accesories connected on yur lap top. Then press the power button for 1 minute. It will reset the settings of your laptop to default if you accidentally press the command for the hotkey to turn off the built in monitor and enabled the extended monitor.

If the issue persist it means it is an issue with the LCD and needs to be replaced.

Your laptop's monitor went bad and needs to be replaced. I had the same problem on an IBM laptop I had. Replacing the monitor costs between $120-220.

Laptop monitor is black

The fastest way to eliminate the video section of your PC is to use the VGA port with an external monitor. If you can get any kind of video, then the problem is narrowed down to either the fluorescent backlight itself or the inverter that supplies it with high voltage; neither of these have any influence on the video output to an external monitor. The LCD section itself can't really fail at once since it is made up of tiny pixels and while it isn't uncommon for indivdual ones to fail, the likelihood that all fail is very remote.
The problem is; without some technical skills, it would be tough to pin it down to one of these two. The backlight tube is a specially formed fluroescent and if it appears to be blackened at either or both ends, then the tube is dead. If it appears pristine, then the inverter is dead; this is normally a small board apart from the main board and not too bad to replace.
Accessing the backlight is of varying degrees of difficulty and if it isn't done carefully, you could damage the LCD portion.
If it seems to boot OK, if you peer at the screen from several shallow angles, you should be able to see some 'ghost' activity on the screen.

Display after rain went black

If your video output works fine when connected to an external monitor, then the issue is with the LCD display panel. I’m afraid the only way to fix this is to have the LCD panel replaced.
