Machine fills with water and then the water just sits there. The only way the machine will do anything is if I turn the knob to drain and spin, the water will drain and the machine will spin. Please advise.

If the timer doesn't advance from either position,then its your timer motor and you will need to trace the power to the motor off the timer,if it has power then the motor is defective and you need to replace the timer unit

Need a model but check the lid switch on right side a little opening under the lid. push with a small screw driver and see if you hear a click, maybe a bad lid switch.

Machine fills but wont do anything else

try the Lid switch If the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it. Some machines have a special lid-switch fuse near the lid switch, inside the control panel. If this fuse blows, the unit won't fill with water until you replace the fuse. or your motor coupling could have broken!

Standing water in the tub

bad inlet water valve --turn water supply off and watch to see if machine continues to fill with water --suggest removing inlet water lines from machine and inspect the strain screens on the machine for sediment build up if so clean

Water sitting in fill area after brewing done

A clean coffee maker is essential to good coffee. Residue of stale coffee oils will interfere the brewing that caused only little to produced. It is suggest regular cleaning of your coffee maker according to manufacturer recommendation.
I took everything out, got a small piece of fine sandpaper, held the plunger in with a pencil, turned on the grinder and sanded the round top portion of the grind basket driver. It takes a few times to get a good snug fit that’s still easy to remove.
The instruction manual that came with the pot will tell you to use one cup (measuring cup) of "white vinegar" and fill the rest of the reservoir with regular water. Turn it on and let it perk the mixture through the system. Then perk a couple of pots of plain water to flush out the rest of the vinegar.
The books say to do this once a month to keep things clean and the coffee tasting great.
A professional machine that is plumbed into a water supply must be thoroughly disassembled, and each part soaked in acid, and manually cleaned. Unless your water is exceptionally hard (you should have a water softener inline with the machine in hard water areas) this should only need to be done every 5 years or so. Heads and screens and filters should be soaked every day in a cleaning solution available from any professional machine supplier. A machine that is not plumbed should have a small amount of Puly brand cleaner added to its tank, and run through several cycles every 3 months. Puly is available thru machine suppliers, but there are also several other brands that do the same. Visit your local coffee machine shop for a good cleaner.

Hope this may help;

Does it fill with "cold" water?Will it spin?Drain?If the machine will fill up with cold water,will the timer advance by itself to finish?Or if you place the timer in spin cycle will it spin?First off if your not getting "Cold" water to fill inside :Replace the water valve (because when the timer stops after the agitation cycle it wont advance because it cant fill up with cold water.
