HI jamesbigble. To see if I understood your problem correctly. You are using a computer thru a router. And the router is connected to a modem. After a while all the lights on the router are lit. And then you have to unplug it and plug it in again and it will work for a while right? Well, if that's the case, that's the router for sure, you need to replace it. If you see something like that happening to the modem, well the same answer for the modem. If any modem, router or switch have all the lights lit, it means some serious problem. Maybe hardware/power or firmware issue. In case you dont want to spend money, I would recommend go to the netgear website and download the latest firmware for your router and try it. I hope this helps. Please dont forget to rate and write positive feedback for our fast-free support today. Thank you :D

No internet connection tips

I listed some of the things you should check if the internet on your desktop or laptop is not working.

Computer connected to the modem

1. Check the cables if its properly connected to the modem
2. check the lights on the modem, if they are all ok.
3. Check if the modem is set on standby mode. MOdem should not be on standby.
4.Power cycle your modem. power off your modem for 3mins, and then turn it on. Wait for the lights to get steady and then check your computer if it has internet access.
5. Call your Internet service provider , it can be a problem with their line.

Computer connecting thru the router

1. If its wired check cables.
Some user plug the computers to the INTERNET or WAN port. Computers should be on the LAN port . Modem should be plug into the WAN or internet port.
2. Check the lights where you connected the computer. See if the port light is lit up
3. Check your computers ip address. HOw?

If your using windows

Click start - run - cmd - enter ipconfig - look for ip address.
If the ip address is 169.xxx , this is an invalid ip.

If your using mac

Click apple icon
Click on system preferences
Go to network and then look for tcp ip address

If you get an invalid ip address the solution is either you need to plug the computer to another ethernet port or your router needs to be reset.

If its wireless and your getting 169.xxx
Theres a possibility that the wireless security on your router and your laptop dont match. Check your wireless security and make sure you enter it correctly.

4. Your router might not be communicating well with the modem. YOu can do the steps above to check if the modem is working properly.

5. if the modem is working. That only means you need to setup your router again to the internet. You can do it using the setup cd that came with your product or you can do it manually by calling your router tech support.

My computer connects to my wireless router, but I cannot get on the internet. The "Locked" light is on - I'm not sure if this is the problem .

Thank you for contacting the experts. The first thing to do is to ensure that your router is getting internet connection.

1. Plug the ethernet cord from your modem to your laptop directly by bypassing the router to see if you can get on the internet.

2. If you are able to successfully get on the internet, then plug the cord from the modem back into the correct port on the router. Make sure you have the cord plugged into the port that says "internet".

3. Once that is plugged in correctly, depending on if you are using DSL (phone company), you will need to log into the router to change the password/user ID settings. If you are using high speed (cable company), then you will not need to put in a user id/password unless you are setting up security.

4. Power cycle your router and modem simulatneously to make sure that the router picks up the modem connection and the modem picks up the router.

I hope this was helpful and thank you for contacting the experts.

How do i hook up my belkin f5d7230-4 router to hughes net internet when there is only one ethernet port?

Connect that one port to your Belkin WAN (Internet)connector (Yellow Port). The other ports go to other computers, to their Broadband RJ45 connectors.
Here's from the manual:
1. Unplug your existing modem’s power supply.
Find the cable connecting your modem and computer.
Unplug it from the modem and plug it into the gray port
on the Belkin Router.
If you are replacing an existing router, find the cable
connecting the computer and old router. Disconnect it from
the old router and plug it into the gray port on the new router
2. Connect the new cable (provided in the box) to the yellow
port on the Router. Plug the other end into the modem.

3. Plug in your modem’s power supply. Wait 60 seconds for the
modem to start up.
Plug the Router’s power supply into a wall outlet, and the
other end into the black port on the Belkin Router.
As the Router wakes up, lights will come on; recheck your
connections if the “power” and one of the “wired” lights
are not lit up in green after 20 seconds.
4. Locate the CD in this guide and insert it into your computer
The Setup Assistant should appear automatically.
If it doesn’t, open the CD in My Computer (Windows®)
or the Finder (Mac OS® X) and double-click on the
“Setup Assistant” icon

Try reconfiguring the Linksys router. Click on this link for instructions on how to configure the router with a cable Internet connection.

After configuring the router and if you already have an Internet connection, then connect your second computer to any numbered port of the router (port 1,2,3, or 4) and test the Internet connection.
Configure the wireless settings of the router by following the steps on this link.

Ic help

Scenario 2 to 4: Scenario 2) The modem does not have an Ethernet port. The modem is a dial-up modem for traditional dial-up service. To use the Router, you need a cable/DSL modem and high-speed Internet connection.

Scenario 3) You cannot use the DSL service to connect manually to the Internet.
After you have installed the Router, it will automatically connect to your Internet Service Provider (ISP), so you no longer need to connect manually.

Scenario 4) The DSL telephone line does not fit into the Router’s Internet port.
The Router does not replace your modem. You still need your DSL modem in order to use the Router. Connect the telephone line to the DSL modem, insert the setup CD into your computer, and then follow the on-screen instructions
