Question about RCA Televison & Video
If you could get the TV working by wacking the chassis, that means that the problem is caused by a broken contact.
Wacking the chassis is in fact a testing method that technicians used to find out if the fault was a broken contact. Today this practice is not widely used, because, like in your case, there is risk to cause more damage to the TV.
If you get no picture at all on a rear projection, then first parts to test are the ballast board, the AV input. Test also removing and putting back the lamp. Whacking may have caused lamp displacement.
A thorough testing must be done by a technician by looking for broken contacts.
Broken contacts will not manifest in the form of an hanging wire, but they will be broken solder joints in the printed circuit board. This faults cannot be detected simply observing the circuit. The tecnician must use a multimeter set to read impedance to check if there is conductivity between two contacts, doing this on hundreds of points, until the problem is detected.
I suggest calling the manufacturer at the number listed on the TV user manual, and asking a quote on repair.
If the quote is not affordable or not worth, start testing the lamp, by removing it and putting it back in place. Detailed procedure is illustrated on the owners manual.
If that does not fix the problem, find a reliable local technician. The repair will not be difficult.
