Try the following steps:

When an external hard drive no longer functions correctly, you can try this method of repair. Please read through the entire road map so you know what to do.

1. Ensure that the device connected to your PC and that he is so Windows will recognize him.
The hard disk has a Windows drive letter assigned. Deze kun je opzoeken bij 'deze computer'. This lets you search for 'computer'. Onthoud deze letter. Remember that letter.

2. Ga naar start en doe het volgende: 2. Go to start and do the following:
Voor Windows XP en eerder: klik op Uitvoeren en typ de volgende tekst: cmd . For Windows XP and earlier: click on Run and type the following text: cmd. Druk daarna op enter of OK. Then press Enter or OK.
For Windows Vista, click in the search field and type cmd. Druk daarna op enter. Then press enter.

Now type in the command prompt window the following:
chkdsk #: /R chkdsk #: / R
Where # is fill the drive letter of your hard disk. Druk hierna op enter. Press enter.

4. Heb geduld! 4. Be patient! Depending on the size of your hard disk, the number of files on the disk and the speed of your PC can scan for errors a considerable while.
It may be that in the meantime a load text will roll along, here follow at some point but probably nothing more to hear this.

5. When the scan is complete you will see this. Your hard disk should now be ready to use!

Take Care :-)

How to fix Usb ports

There is nothing wrong with the USB ports, the problem is the laptop itself; all you need to do is a disk cleanup & disk defragment; just click the search program on your laptop and type in disk cleanup and do it then type in disk defragment and do it!! ( Disk Cleanup & Disk Defragment Programs Are Built Into The Laptop And cannot be removed )

It has a USB on the front can I down load a film onto my laptop for my own use. What is the USB on the front for?

Universal Serial Bus is what it stands for. They are for other hardware components with those attachments to be able to plug into your computer. An external and simpler way to do this. You can transfer files to USB Sticks or plug in a external hard drive or other gadgets that use a USB cable. You can download most files if you have a external hard drive or a USB Stick plugged in to it. There has to have some kind of hardware with a cable hooked to it that fits that type of slot. Most components will be set up for this bus system.

My computer freezes when i plug in external hard drives

Does it freeze when plugging in any USB device? Exam the USB port and plug/cable for any damage. I have seen the pins get bent and the tab cracked on a Dell USB port before.

Hard disk not detected sometimes

I can think of 3 possible causes to your problem:

1. Faulty cable - try replacing the cable by borrowing a working cable from a friend. If this solves the problem then you need to buy a new cable

2. Lack of power - some USB drives especially those for high capacity drives require extra power aside from that provided by USB. If you do not have a separate power leading to your drive, check if there is a separate power slot and run a cable from it to your outlet/USB slot. Just make sure that the voltage levels are correct.

3. USB Slot - some laptops' USB slots do not produce power enough to drive a hard disk. Other devices may work (e.g. keyboards, mouse) but not hard drives. Try to use another slot in your laptop. If this works, remember to use the same slot next time.

Hope this helps.

My seagate 250 GB hard disk is not being detected, no lights, pls help me!!

First, try plugging it in to another usb slot.

If it still does not work, plug in another device to the same usb slot. If it does not work also, there is a problem with your usb slot, and you can buy an extra usb slot.

or, if the other device works, try unplugging and taking out all the power supply for your desktop/laptop. Then, after 20 minutes, plug them back in and then plug in your hard drive, then turn on your computer.

Hope this helps, leave a comment on what happened ^_^

Reg mmc card reading

Normally you'd just be able to open My Computer, and plug the card in to the built in slot, and it would pop up as the next available drive letter. If the internal slot is missing or inoperative, you could buy a cheap MMC to USB adapter, plug the card into the adapter, and the adapter into a USB slot.

T30 with XP hangs and freezes intermittenly during usage...

There's a chance it's still the memory slots. You know, they are located directly beneath the hard drive.
Just a thought.
good luck
