Samsung dlp shuts off at various intervals, new bulb, when you turn it on i can here a slight buzz,squeak type sound, makes me think ballast but then i read about the color wheel it does make the click but danged if the noise doesnt sound like the ballast choking trying to power up the bulb... anyone wanna tell me to just go ahead and do the ballast so i can blame someone else when the color wheel is my issue and the wifes hands go to her hips with an evil stare... lol anyone ???

I would assume you need to replace that ballast. Usually the bulbs out live the bulb's ballast (from previous experience)...I've seen DLPS do this type of thing when the bulbs are slow to turn on due to a new ballast being needed.

I would try replacing the entire ballast. Make sure that the lamp switch is good too. 3 blinks usually indicates an open lamp door.

check the fan that cools the bulb. if its rubbing something that would make the buzzing sound, and if its not cooling the bulb it will shut off when it over heats.

Hi,Sometimes its something simple.Did you close the door cover,it has a switch that wont let lamp power on if its not pressed.Did you reset the lamp timer? you can do this by unplugging the tv wait 5 min and plug it back again.Any strange noises like clicking or buzzing sounds? If you heard clicking it will be an issue w the board that powers the lamp its called the ballast.If you heard buzzing it could be an issue with the color wheel,which is a small disc that creates tyhe colors on your tv. Last question did you get the Original Philips lamp or a generic? Lamp or ballast(if lamp has been replaced) is bad.
Explanation: green comes on: system works, waiting for light to shine into light engine: no light is coming out of lamp, system shuts down, then you see red! how to determine: pull the lamp out of the unit's compartment. Inspect lamp: bloated stem? shuttered? reflector is not shiny? Chuck it!
Lamp looks good or just been replaced: try ballast. Close lamp compartment without lamp itself. Make sure, door is shut, as well. Turn unit on and listen close to lamp compartment: good ballast will make a buzzing noise, then stop. You've got "red'! No buzzing: ballast quit. Needs major repair! Lamp must be good, for sure, to get to the last part of diagnostics. Conclusion: more, than 2000 hours of usage: replace lamp first!

Remove your new bulb and examine the connector carefully. The inexpensive replacement bulbs tend to arc and ruin your $700 ballast; sad to say. If everything looks good, make sure the interlock switch on the bulb cover opening is engaging. It won't fire up if it thinks that door is open.

If you hear a clicking sound in your bulb area like an arcing sound it's probably your ballast trying to fire up your bulb. new ballast easy to replace and around $100.
