Question about Sony KP-61HS10 61" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Blurry picture Having a problem with KP-61HS10. Picture is blurry at all times. Tried to flash-focus it to no avail.. Seems a little clearer on right side of screen, but not much. Some of the brighter white text has a faint reddish hue outline. Any ideas on this?? Should I try the grid thing in the Service mode? (not too familiar with those settings). It just happened all of the sudden, no previous changes were made. Thanks in advance

No, I didn't turn on SVM (I assume you mean Service Mode?). I also did not change to a different picture mode. Nothing was changed when this happened.

Did you accidentally turn on SVM? Make sure it's off. And make sure you haven't switched to a different picture mode by mistake.

SVM is "scan velocity modulation," a lousy artificial picture sharpener that can add weird colorations to edges. The default setting on most sets is "on."

I know these models came out around 2001, and I'm afraid that the problem sounds like it is related to the bulb going bad.

This article outlines how many TVs from around the turn of the century have had similar problems to yours.

I know bulb replacement is an option. You may want to call around to TV repair shops and see what your options are. In the end, though, it may be time to start saving up for a new TV.

Blurry tv

there is a focus control in the front of the set behind the front grill there is a door in the middle attached by screws take this off and it should be right behind it. There are six controls on a little box one row says focus and the other says screen don't adjust the screen controls. In some cases these are in the back of the set.

You have loose solder connections on the convergence amps. This is a common problem caused by heat within the unit.If you can solder you can fix it.

Red screen on my sony kp-53s25,

That model is famous for bad green CRTs which can cause the screen to take on a red hue when the green cuts out that can also cause the set to get blurry also. Let me know if you need more assistance.

Picture very blurry with lines going accross screen

hi gud day! your problem has a solution. Just try to fix your tv from blurry picture. Pull the socket at hte back of the picture tube. remove the socket from pcb(printed circuit board) de solder the pins. then after that, if you see a 2 metal formed like a small mountain facing each other, try to clean those remove the rust (green color) using sander or any material you can use, just avoid using oil on that bcause it is sparking. then try to install it again and try to turn on your tv. if still not working replace that socket with a new one. you can buy it at any electronic supply store. and re install then on it again.. surely it will fix your tv without expensive components.

be sure unplugging the tv from ac souce before disassimbling...

thanks,
janex

Blurry screen KP61hs10

Yes, Convergence settings should be tried first before any color adjustment or any fluid changes are done. Remember that there are 3 colors to notice. Red, Green, Blue. The Green is the only one that you can not move with an adjustment The Red and Blue is ligned up on green. Some cases it does matter how linear the Green color is across the board, just how close you get the blue and red on top of green is what matters.

Sounds like the convergence ic's need to be replaced or resoldered. Sometimes it can be a microfuse if you are lucky. But my question is if you hit the focus button up front does it make it thru the auto convergence? Let me know. Have a good one.
