Solution #1 is useless. On the ALPS 5000, try cleaning the print head with a cotton swab and alcohol. There might be ink residue on the print elements. If this does not work, you might have a damaged print head.

Hi There

Summary

Usage of compatible ink and leave the printer idle too long may cause printhead clogging
What should you do if you get this problem. Relax; you may recover the printhead by unclogging it. Follow these steps to unclog the printhead

1. Right click in the printer driver name
2. Select Properties menu
3. Click Maintenance tab
4. Click on cleaning sign for regular cleaning. Perform this up to 3 times.
5. If this does not work, perform Deep Cleaning

And if that not work

Some times it needs a good clean up but this is up to you if you want to do this,
But after you done this prime the printer so it gets the inks back in the heads, it may take a little time for the inks to work.

Ok.

There is fluid cleaner for this but I can never find any in the shops the only ones I seen is when they sell them in Tesco but they come in with the ink refill bottles so I just use worm water by it self on a cloth and dabbing on the heads to clean them, it will not harm the heads but not to much water.

Some heads are on the inks them self but some have them inside the printer so I not know your printer so if the heads are inside you need to get them out you may find that some heads will just clip out put some need to be unscrewed so you got to know how they come out so be careful and not push to hard on them, if the heads are on the ink then it is a easy job to clean them,
It worth a try it worked for me more than ones.

Please all I ask is call back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one, so I will keep on helping.

I use my MD5000 to print simple logos on decal paper. It prints OK in black or white, but any color printing is incomplete. It's as if the color(s) have ran out, but it prints the same specific incomplete...

Replace the cartridge if it has the printhead attached or if not take a straw and puddle the cap where the printer parks the head and turn it off let it soak 1/2 a day then turn on & off 2 or 3 times

Hello

Did you check the thermal head if its getting hot or not? Another thing is the opto sensor for detecting the presence of media try to clean it first with a brush and then try to print.

I have an alps MD400 and am running xp pro with drivers for xp and can't get the thing to print and need a trouble shooter

There are WinXP drivers for the MD-4000. You can find them in the files section in the Yahoo ALPS Group. There are some conflicts with the Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and the ALPS printers. It is best to connect to a computer running SP2 and has a parallel port. The ALPS group also has the Twain for the Scanner. The MD-4000 does require a carrier to scan things.

I just purchased an Alps MD5000. When I set everything up and powered it up, I forgot to pull the packing material out of the printer. This material was placed in there to keep the carriage from moving...

When you power on the printer, the cartridge head checks to see which cartridges are loaded in the printer. The packing material prevented that from happening. A gear could have gotten stripped or mis-aligned, or one of the hold pins on the cartridge carrier could have gotten bent. Can you manually slide the carrier back and forth? Do any of the pins or gears look stripped or bent?

MD5000 to MACBOOK PRO problem

MAC is NOT my forte... however, I do know that ALPS offered THIS a few years after the MD5000 came out:

USB Interface Kit for the iMac OS V8.01 and Windows ($99)

You might find it on ebay etc. and be able to use it (no support with this printer on OS X!).
