Thank you so much! After 15 minutes it still was not functioning so I kept the battery out for a whole day and it's working again!

just purchased a dsc-sc700 a few months ago and have used it 3 times maybe since. a week ago (in my house) i was taking pics and all of the sudden it powered off, but the lens did not retract and is still out. i replaced the batts w/ new, but didn't power on. what can i do? i'm a little over it, and just wish it would come on rather than ship it back. thanks and hopefully someone can help me fix it.

Remove the battery for 15 min and see it that does it if not you might have jared a board loose. or broke loose a solder joint. It can be fixed but with out proper diagnosis I can not be positive of what is broke.

Why has mydsc-s700 have a black screen

Hi,
Your camera must be experiencing these symptoms due to a faulty CCD, and not due to other problems. If the problem is due to your dropping the camera, you might be out of luck.
If you have not dropped your camera and still facing this problem, then contact service people to replace the CCD imager in your camera .

Hope this helps .

Thanks for using Fixya.

Camera will shut off then the shutter will close

Yes it could. It is possible a small dirt get on the side of the lense and it prevents the lense to close all the way in. Clean it up and while turning the camera off, push the lense in. Not too hard. You might have to repeat the step a few times. Do not drop your camera, if you did make sure you clean the sides of the popped off lense. If they did not help, some mechanical part of the lense is shifted or broken.

Good Luck

Dropped camera - lost pictures

I dropped mine yesterday and have the same issue. I figured that it must have caused something internal to shift so, I know this sounds crazy, I just gently dropped it on my desk, and it actually fixed it's self and works. This camera has been dropped from top of fridge and tv and is still in tact, to my surprise. Proceed at your own risk if you're thinking about doing what I just did, but it worked.
