HP DeskJet 812C Hardware Problem! with Printer cartridge carriage. Printer Cartridge retracted into right side of case will not come out. There is No paper jam in machine to prevent it from doing so. ...

Disconnect the "data" cable (parallel or USB).
Disconnect the "power" cable.
Reconnect the "power" cable.
Turn the printer on.
Lift the printer's lid -- the print-carriage should slide the printer-heads to the "middle" position.

If all else fails, take the printer to a qualified technician, for more trouble-shooting.

Printer offline and power light blinking

I had same problem. If there are no print jobs in query and you've tried powering down the printer and restarting the computer, disconnect the USB cable. If the light is still blinking when you turn the printer on, remove either the black or the color print cartridge, close the cover and if the light is still blinking install the cartridge you took out and remove the other. My black cartridge went bad apparently and when I replaced it, no blinking light.

The alarm light is on and it won't print

Check the back of the printer. Open up the back door. There is a barely visible 2nd door which you need to open. Check to see if there is a paper jam behind this 2nd door. Often this is the problem and clearing this back paper jam will clear the red alarm light.

Power went out and back on; now printer won't print

I had the same problem after a resent power outage. Here's what fixed mine.

Turn the power switch off.
Wait a 15-20 seconds
While holding the button on the front panel down turn the power switch on.
After the drum light comes on release the button wait then press the button again.
Turn the machine off then back on again and you should be back in business.

To prevent the problem in the future if you are not using the printer turn it off and if the power goes off while printing get the printer turned off before the power comes back.
