Routers, like any electronic unit, will get weaker over time. This may not be your problem, though. Take a look at where you have your router placed - there needs to be air room around the unit to stop it from overheating. Also, the power supplies on these routers have a problem with overheating as well. Try moving the router and power supply to a spot that gives them more air. You could also try replacing the power supply instead of the router, because they usually tend to break down more than the routers themselves. Good luck.

Won't connect to dsl

All right. Try resetting your modem and router. (To do this, unplug your modem, then router, wait about a minute, then plug the modem back in, wait a few seconds, and plug in your router.) A few minutes after the reset, if Netflix still isn't working, check the wireless settings on your Wii itself. Test the connection, too. If your Internet is active, you might want to check the Wii Shop Channel and see if there's an update you've missed. If your Internet isn't working, contact your provider, and make sure your router and modem are connected correctly.

If your Internet isn't wireless, follow the above steps, minus the router parts.

I can not connect to the Internet. I have WiFi connection but can't do anything else

Plug your computer/laptop directly into router. Can you get to the Internet then?
If you CANNOT get to the internet when your computer is plugged into the router, reboot your router. If it doesn't have a power switch, unplug it. Leave it unplugged. Next, you need to figure out if you have another modem for DSL or Cable. If you do have another DSL or Cable modem, unplug that device to. After 5 minutes has elapsed for both devices being unpowered, plug in the DSL or Cable modem to the power source. Keep the router unplugged from power. After your DSL or Cable modem has powered up for 5 minutes, plug your router into the power source. Wait a few minutes. Reboot your computer/laptop. Try the wireless connection again.
If you CAN get to the internet when your computer is plugged into the router. Reboot your computer. Try to connect again. If you cannot connect after rebooting, make sure you are connecting to YOUR OWN wireless access point and not someone else's.
Do you have other computers/laptops/wifi devices that CAN/CANNOT connect to your wireless / access the Internet?

Hi, my router won't le tme connect to the internet. I have unplugged it, waited a few minutes and then plugged it back in. Re-booted it, and still no connections. Any suggestions?

Hi,

you probably need to unplug power on your router too.

Unplug both power plugs and wait 20 seconds. Then plug back power to your MODEM FIRST.

Wait 1 minute to make sure the connection get an ip address.

After that, put the power back to your router.

Wait 20 seconds and try the connection with your computer.

If it doesn't work, restart your computer.

Hope this helps!

My router was working fine until my mum unplugged it to move furniture then plugged it back in. now I can connect to local network but no internet access, I think it is something to do with ipv6 and I have...

Try to unplug both power cords from modem and router. Wait for 10 seconds and plug in your modem first. Wait 1 minute to make sure the modem find a new ip address and then plug in your router. You should be able to get your internet back this way. If it doesn't work after that, try to restart your computer because it probably keeps the old ip address until you reboot.

Hope it helps!

Losing internet access every few minutes. Time Warner says problem is not theirs. I disconnected router for 30 seconds and plugged it back in but problem persists.

Try to upgrade the firmware of the router. Firmware is the software of the router.
Download the latest firmware of the router. Go to the manufacturer's web site and download the firmware of the router.
Open the set up page of the router and upgrade the firmware of the router. Once you upgrade the firmware of the router, reset the router.
On the router you will find a small reset button, hold it down for 30 seconds. release it. wait for 1 minute. Now unplug the power to the router and plug it back in.
Now you will need to reconfigure the router according to the Internet service provider.

Keep losing internet connection

Since i don't know how old the router is, i'm going to do some guesswork here.
If the router is older then 4 years, i would suggest buying a new one.
If it is younger, i would suggest the following:
Since i don't know the exact model for your router:
Connect to your router by a cable (Network cable) and make sure you can connect to the router.
Go to http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/linksys/ and enter your model number of your router.
Go to the downloads tab for your model and download the firmware.
Login to your router and find an option labeled Update Firmware.
Upload the new firmware and sit back for about 20 minutes.
When the firmware upgrade is complete disconnect the cable and try again via wireless

I've lost internet and was told that I need to refresh my router. How do I do that?

Sometimes your internet connection through your router fails for some reason or another, and you'll have to restart it. The simplest way to do that is just to unplug the router and plug it back in. If you still don't have a connection after that, unplug your modem, unplug the router, turn your computer off, turn your modem back on, turn the router back on and restart your computer. If it still doesn't work, call your ISP. If you want the video, go to http://www.videojug.com/expertanswer/computers-and-the-internet/how-do-i-refresh-my-internet-and-router-connection

2300 router not sending signal or allowing flow to computer

First unplug router, turn off computer. Then plug ethernet into router then power up. Allow time for router to recognise internet connection and boot up completely. Then plug second ethernet into computer then power up computer. Allow enough time for the router to recognise computer and the computer to recognise router. You should be able to access internet within a few minutes. If not you might want to verify that the router is not outdated and fully functioning.
