Question about Motorola DCP-501 Receiver
Just bought my DCP 501 from an on-line company. I was out on a fishing trip when it arrived, so my son saw fit to set it up and suprise me upon my return..... However he did a scan for channels, which clearly warns not to in the set up, for digital customers.
Needless to say.... I truely was suprised when I returned home. I have been able to get the receiver to out put a few of my channels, but nothing digital and after calling the company I purchased it from, I can not a response from them.
HELP!!! If anyone would know what I can do to reset or undo what my teenager did.....
My name is alfredo.
press and hold the top and bottom button off.

To the person who posted solution #2.
The company selling them claims that the box is fully activated and will get all the channels 1-999. They also make it sound as if the box they sell can very easily steal cable tv and you could very, very easily get away with it undetected. This info is very tempting (most importantly misleading) for most people, whether they will admit it or not. It could happen to anybody. It's basically taking advantage of good/decent citizens on the account of a weakness we all have - temptation.
Now having said that they not only trick you and take advantage of you, but they are also braking the law.
They are totaly misleading their customers into buying something they did not pay for, which is illegal.
Killing people is illegal, but that doesn't give the gun-store a right to sell fake guns and claim they work.
I bought one of these boxes, and not only that the box didn't work, but when I tried to activate it, my cable company (comcast) didn't know how to do it, couldn't do it, and even if they knew how, they said, they still wouldn't do it.
So I've decided, whatever it takes, I will get even with them.
I will reverse the payment charge and keep the box too.

I disagree, it's not a ripoff. Mine does everything it's supposed to, and does it quite well. Before you can receive any digital channels, it has to be activated by Comcast. Most Comcast employees will tell you that it's illegal to own your own cable box, and that even if they did activate it, it wouldn't work. Both statements untrue. After several attempts, I spoke to a supervisor, who referred me to their legal department, and the next day the box was working fine.

Of course, call your cable company. What do you want to do? Steal cable TV, while the rest of us have to pay for it?
