The protect light wont turn off, so power light wont come on

OK, I am assuming that you are talking about an amplifier, right? If so, check the wiring. An amplifer's protection senses fluctuations in amperage load. This is a good thing. It's saving your amp from frying, so don't be mad at the amp. Start with the ground wire. This is typically the source of the problem. If you know how to use a multimeter, use it to ensure that your ground is a good position. If you solve this, look at the guage of wire you are using. 50-65 amp loads from 13-22 foot runs are acceptable for a 4 guage wire. If you are running 8 guage for this, you need to upgrade your wire. Look at your amp. Check the fuses. The numbers on the fuses, add them up. You can use that as a bases for your amperage load. Also, is your remote wire allowing the amp to turn off, and thus reset? Something else to think about. Happy Wiring

I have a kicker 500.2 red protection light is on and red light on top of amp flashes every couple seconds. Have checked all connections and other amp in truck works good. I bought two of these amps and...

Disconnect all the wires except the three main power wires, ground, 12v battery and remote. Now, turn on your radio, if the protect light is still on then there's an internal short in the amp. If the light turns green, then there's a short in either the auxiliary cables or the speaker outs. If it turns green, then troubleshoot the other wires that plug into the amp by connecting them one at a time until the protect light comes on, which will tell you that there's a problem with that speaker/aux wire.

Its in protect mode and wont go back to normal

disconnect everything except the power, remote, and ground. turn off then on. if it goes into protect mode then there's a posibility that the amp if fried. check all the speaker inputs and outputs to make sure that there are no stray wires shorting out. if it stays on then you may have a short on a speaker wire or an auxilary input wire. plug each one in one at a time until it goes into protect mode, then that's the shorted wire or it could be a shorted speaker.

The portection light on my alpine mrv-1507 wont let me get any sound

remove the rca wires and the speaker output wires and just leave the 12volt power/ remote/ and ground connected. turn on the radio and see if the light goes off. if it does then one of your speaker or rca wires are shorted, plug in one at a time and see which one gets you the red protect light, then find the short for that speaker/rca wire. if the red light turns on with only the 12volts/remote/ground, then the short is in the amp.

!!!red protect light is on!!!

Hello beaugarcia26,

Unless the amp itself is defective, there's a short or ground somewhere.

First disconnect the speaker wires and RCA (or high level) inputs, leaving just ground, remote turn-on and power leads connected. Then see if the amp powers up normally. If it doesn't check the ground with a multimeter and make sure it is good. If the amp powers up normally, check the speaker, speaker wires and inputs for shorts or grounds.

Hope this helps.

Red protection light wont turn 2 green no matter what so the amp wont work

Hello mcis43fan,

The protection circuit can be activated by shorted or grounded wiring or it can be caused by a defect in the amp itself.

First, disconnect all wires except power, ground and the remote turn-on lead and see if the amp powers up normally. If it still goes into protection, the amp is defective, most likely shorted outputs and needs repair or replacement. If the amp powers up normally, test the other wiring for shorts and grounds. You can reconnect them one at a time to determine which one is causing the problem.

Hope this helps.

Amplifier wont turn on.

Generally, when an amplifier goes into protection when you attempt to power it up, it means that the output transistors have failed.

Measure the DC voltage across the B+ and ground terminals as well as across remote and ground. If you have less than 11 volts when the amp tries to power up, the amp could be shutting down due to low voltage.

If the voltage remains near or above 12v, disconnect all speaker wires and signal cables from the amp. If it powers up, the wiring needs to be checked. If it still shuts down, the amp likely has blown output transistors.

switch off the amp then take off all the wires off including the speaker wire and then reconnect the wires on like before the problem is that the amp is on protection and if that dont work then get it repaired another thing is make sure ur amp fuses havent blown.
