Bose RC-9 Remote just needs an internal cleaning

How do you get it apart? Don't want to break the case, and presume you just pry it apart. but, from which end first? Sides?

It works if I hold the buttons in or bang it around a bit, so as others have found, it just needs a good internal cleaning.

remove the batterys and look for 1 to 4 screw holes. have a thin bladed knife to push in on the seam and to pry open. I start at the battery box side.. once apart you might have 1 or 2 small screws holding the curcit board down and some prongs to . Remove the srews and push the prongs to the side and pull off the board . you will be at the rubber button side. clean as much as possible. notice the inside of the buttons. you can use a pencil to draw on the inside to act as a conductor for the bad buttons that are worn

SOURCE: Disassemble DirecTV remote?

There are a total of SIX screws. You have already found two in the battery compartment. There are four more under the GREY panel on the front of the remote. That grey panel pries out; there are two tabs on the lower sides and one on the top, above the > button, that hold it in. Should not be hard to get it out to reveal the four screws. Take them all out, and the remove easily pries apart for service access.

SOURCE: Disassemble DirecTV RC32 remote to fix sticky buttons

The solution posted by GP49 was very helpful. A few things to add would be the light gray oval pannel that surrounds the yellow "select" button is not easly pryed up unless you try it from the sides near the "guide" or "exit" buttons.

Once all of the screws are removed, there is a tab on each side of the remote where the top of the remote (the white part) meets the bottom (the black part). The tabs would be about where the 4 and 6 buttons are.

SOURCE: How do you pry apart a Bose RC-9 Remote control

There are 3 tabs on each side, and 1 on each end. Pry with a thin flat head screwdriver, but be gentle as you can break these easily. The first tabs are 2 and 5/8 inches from the top end of the remote, with the others 2 inches away from this. The ones on the ends are dead center.

Why does my bose RC-9 remote works only at close range?

1. The antenna inside (It looks like a coil of thick copper wire) gets broken or the solder breaks away.

2. The data cable has been coiled up (to make it neat and tidy). The data cable is the actual antenna to pick up the remote control signal.
Solutions :

1. The remote control can be repaired.

2. If the data cable is all coiled up, spread it out loose and this will make the remote control work much better.

Hope this helps :)

Bose remote RC-25 won't work anymore

Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check it battery contacts, inside its battery compartment for any rust or dust accumulated, which prevents the electrical contacts. If all are found OK, you remote control need cleaning. To clean it, you have to open it. If you wish to know more details about how to clean and check a remote control, check this link.

I accidentally drop milk on the remote control, and now its not working, what can i do

Remove the batteries from the remote, then gently pry apart the plastic casing. Be careful with this so you don't break the tabs which hold it together. Look for slots at the seam where they join and apply pressure there with a flat screwdriver or knife.

Be VERY aware how it fits together as it comes apart. You will need to reassemble it after all. You will probably have a rubber pad or similar that fits into the upper casing that acts as the buttons. Under this rubber piece will be a circuit board with contacts on it. Clean any milk or other residue you can find on this board using a Q-tip moistened with rubbing alcohol. Do NOT use water in here at any time. The alcohol will dry very quickly and prevent unwanted issues after reassembly. Stubborn gunk can be removed using a pencil eraser if necessary, followed by the Q-tip/alcohol treatment. Once it completely clean, carefully reassemble and replace batteries.

Cross fingers and test. If you are lucky the remote will function as normal. Otherwise it is permanently damaged and must be replaced.

My lifestyle remote all of sudden will only work up close. I unwraped all the wires that I had tied up, always had them tied and changed batteries 2 times and did not resolved the problem. The system is...

I also have this probelem. Anyone have a solution? William, what did you end up doing? Was it a receiving problem (from the media center), or a delivering problem (the remote)? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Our bose remote stopped working after a fall from a table

hey....normally with remotes there are only so many things that can go wrong....normally when it is dropped either the battery terminals can short each other out..or the IR LED breaks off the PCB or you get a dry joint somewhere i would suggest that you pull it this by using a small flat bladed screwdriver and gently pri the case apart remebering to remove any screws that it might have on the back panel and just inspect for any of the faults listed above its normally nothing a soldering iron and some solder will fix...if it has sustained quite a hard fall (and i mean really hard) the pcb can sometimes break straight across it and then the remote is useless but it is worth opening up and having a look first hope this helps, ben

Doesn't work

Inside the remote is a ferrite antenna wrapped with a solid copper wire. Over time this large wire solder point cracks. I've had one that rattled. Carefully pry apart the remote and resolder.

They usually just snap together, but whatever's been spilled in it may be binding it like glue. Try flexing it by twisting and bending to break the "beverage goo glue"
