Yes the cheapest way is to go to a appliance recycling center if you want a brand new panel you can get one from all brands appliance parts they seem to be cheaper then marcone

How bad is this Scratch? Small light scratches will have no effect on what your ironing. Large, deep scratches are only a problem if they are over a steam jet hole. This can blow steam in the wrong direction which isn't safe. For bad scratches it is often better to replace the iron.

Nothing can be done about the scratch itself apart from replacing the cover. Alternatively you can now buy laptop skins. These are sticky backed plastic designs that cover the lids and also palm rests.
It is an art. You do not have to bend any metal. Usually the glass gets rotated and will "just" make it out through the top of the door. care must be taken to not scratch the new glass.
On these machines there are no screws holding the top down, get under it and pop it up using a tool that won't scratch the finish.
First I would try removing the front panel to see if it could be done through the front. Its only held by two screws in the bottom.
