When watching a movie during a dark scene or night scene I can barley see the picture? I replaced the DLP bulb a year ago and do not have the replace bulb alert on the TV. Any Ideas?

Techman007 is correct here. Lamps have "lifetimes" of a certain number of hours. The lamp indicator is there to let you know that the lamp is likely to fail soon as it has reached its expected lifetime. That does not mean that there aren't lamps that will fail sooner. In your case, the lamp is not producing the amount of light required for a good picture. This is normal for lamps as they age. The light output for all lamps decreases with use. Normally this does not occur in such drastic ways however.

Since you are getting light from the lamp, the ballast is working as expected. The ballast is similar in function to the ballast for a flourescent light, it either works or doesn't.

One other thing that can be checked is the fan area and any glass surfaces for dust and dirt. Again this will effect hte overall light output, but not in such a drastic way. When you next change the lamp, carefully clen any glass surfaces as well as the fan area. Please note that any access to the lamp area should be done after the lamp has had time to cool. These lamps are burn hazards.

HI:
Just to let you know if the replacement bulb was not a philips brand lamp then it may be time for a new one. Usually when DLP's start showing dark or not enough light then its time for a new lamp. The lamp alert does not have to come on in order for the lamp to be worn depending on the use of the set of course. The lamps are on a timer circuit that keeps the hours of use of the lamp even tho its only been a year does not mean the lamp is not worn. If the lamp you brought was a generic type lamp like, LTI then its time for a new one. Make sure you buy a Sony brand lamp as they all use Philips 120watt bulbs.

The idea I have for you is the bulb connector and or ballast. what has happen is the ballast/connector is not providing enought power to the bulb and when these sceans come up well you just cannot see verry good.

The worse it can be is the light engine in this unit witch is $850 to replace.. But I would check the ballast first.

thanks and be considerate and leave a rating and feedback for your free answer today.

My Vizio LCD TV screen fades to dark. Sound stays on.

I w having this same issue when watching a Blu-Ray disc. I found it to be dependent upon what picture mode the TV was set to. By this I mean certain picture modes would cause the TV to dim during dark scenes of a movie. Changing the picture mode helped a lot.

Sony bravia dims randomly

There should be a setting in the menu of the TV to turn off the auto dim feature (used for adjusting the brightness of the picture depending on ambient room lighting) I don't have a Sony LCD here with me to walk you through the menu settings, but I am certain it is there somewhere. (Chased this issue for the wife who had the same displeasure you're having)

Ultravision image dark

Good Day, tfarmer;

Since you have replaced the lamp, which is the normal cause for a dark picture. Have you checked your video settings?

The brightness level should be set at about 55 to 60%, the contrast should be set at about 90% and the video temp should be at normal or high.

If all these are set about this way, then I would think that the light engine might be going bad.

Good Luck, big IRISH.

replace the pcb convergence board,, It costs $96 and takes 10 minutes to replace you will have to manually line up your convergence afterward as the settings go to factory default. Everyone that owns this set has or will have to replace this part within 3 years
