Question about Amana PTH153B50AM Air Conditioner

1 Answer

We have this air conditioner in our sunroom. From the beginning, the temperature set is not maintained. When the unit is set to cool, no matter how high a temperature I select, the unit cuts on approximately every 10-15 minutes, and cools the room to about 66 degrees. When set to heat in the winter, no matter how low a temperature I select, the heat cuts on about every 10-15 minutes, and the room will heat to a much higher temperature than selected. Any idea what the problem is, and how I can resolve it?

Why does the external unit go between extracting hot and cold air without any setting changes?.

if you have your air conditioning on an "automatic mode"
You set the temperature and the unit will decide what it has to do to achieve this temperature, ie heat or cool, the unit will the switch back and forth to try and maintain rhe set point temperature, this is totally normal,

Why does the split unit blow hot air in air conditioner mode, when switched on with the remote control.

because you have the temperature set at 28 degrees celcuis . Change the temperature to 18 degrees and it will cool 28 is hotter
It is a reverse cycle air conditioner it will warm the room if you set temperature to 28 degrees . Set it lower and it will blow out cold air.
Have exact same air conditioner as I recognise the remote control.
point it at the air conditioner when altering the temperature setting.
Check under the slide compartment also on the remote for more advanced settings.

Can the unit operate without the remote control

Yes, by pressing the power button on the unit. It is factory set to cool to 68 degrees and maintain that temperature. To access any other settings you must use the remote control. The part # for the remote is CRMC-A750JBEZ

Cant find manual. How do you adjust tempature on this ? Thank you

First make sure that the unit is in Cool mode. (Press the Mode button: the choices are Cool, Dehumidify, Fan and Auto. You will see the mode at the top of the LCD display - Cool to the left and Auto above the temperature display) Then press the + or - buttons (or the up/down arrows on the remote) to reach the temperature that you want the unit to maintain. If you press both the up and down buttons together, the current set temperature will display for about 5 seconds. Then you can set the unit back into the Auto mode so that the mode and fan will switch on as needed.

We just moved into a rental. It has the Fugitsu wall-mounted Air-conditioner model: ar-jw2 but, there was no manual left behind and we are trying to use the heat, however, it just blows cool air, we're not...

Look, if you select a temperature above ambient temperature, it will switch from cooling to heating.(assuming that the aircon has a heat pump. most do these days.) Just dont rush the aircon because every time you make a setting change, it takes a while to regulate.

I have a 2 1/2 ton unit. If the outside temperature is 95 degrees. What should I expect from my unit in cooling my house.

If properly charged your unit should perform fine, having a dirty condensor at that temperature can cause problems not easily recognized.

A well insulated house should be able to maintain a 20 degree temperature difference whether its summer
or winter. No Mechanical cooling or heating involved
for at least 6-8hrs if not more.

If it never cools when it is 95 degrees outside the ambient outside temperature is not the problem.
At 95 degree out side air you should be seeing inside discharge air temperatures betwenn 48-55 degrees.

It is the load in the house that determines how long the unit will run at 95 degress.

Air not very cold. Any advice

Make sure the condenser fan and evaporator fan are running. Check your filters. Make sure the coils are not clogged with dirt or dust. Make sure the compressor is running. Get the refrigerant charge checked.

I would replace the thermostat.

First - be sure and un-plug the Air Condtiioner from the wall.

When you 'select' the temperture I am assuming you are doing this with a 'knob' of some sort. This knob will be part of the thermostat - therefore it (t-stat) should be simple to identify.

Note: On some - LED/Electronic units - it may be difficult to identify the thermostat.

If, however, you can easily ID the t-stat - then you will have to dismantle the AC unit enough to get to the thermostat; it will be installed on/in the unit with screws of some type.

When you find the thermostat -- simply take the wires off the connections (these are usually - 'female' type spades that slide over 'male' type connections on the switch.

When you remove the wires be sure you mark them in such a way you can replace them on the "correct" terminals of the new thermostat without getting them mixed up.

It will be essential that the new thermostat - (A) physically fit the slot that the old one did, i.e. you can re-install it as the old one was and - (B) that it will have the connections you need - in order to connect your wires correctly.

If you take the old thermostat to an Air Conditioning Supply house they will probably be able to sell you an exact replacement - but in any event - an appropriate replacement - that will work.

good luck!

Outside unit not working

If the heating and cooling is working O.K. and maintaining the proper temperatures it is possible that your outside unit is in its off cycle. If the inside unit is running and the outside unit is not with an elevated temperature inside check the power supply to the outside unit. Most units have a disconnect located near them. Check the disconnect and make sure it is set to the on position. Listen for a hum noise at the outside unit which could indicate that the control power is being supplied to the contactor.
