72955587_xs.jpg Wireless routers connect computers to a network without the need for network cables.

Wireless routers are used to connect computers into a network without running network cables throughout your home or office. Netgear wireless router settings must be changed using the router's Web-based interface. Any computer that is "hard wired" with a network cable to the router, rather than on a wireless connection, can be used to access the router. From the Settings menu, options such as "Encryptionicon1.png," "Network setup details" and "Passwords" can be customized.

On a computer that is connected to the routericon1.png with a network cable, open any Web browser, such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. In the address bar, type "" (without the quotes) and press "Enter." This will bring up the login prompt for most Netgear wireless routers. If that doesn't work, try "", "", or "" until the login window appears.

Type "admin" in the Username field, type "password" in the Password field and click "OK." If the password fails, try "1234," "Password" with a capital "P" or "admin". Once you enter the proper credentials, the settings screen will open.

Make any required changes to the settings. Under Security section, it is possible to specify a new username and password for added security. Once you have saved your changes, close the window, and the system will automatically log you out.

How do i reset my router

To RESET the Netgear, power up the Netgear then press and hold the RESET button at the back of the router until all the LEDs flash. Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on your computer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL -
The default login = admin
The default PW = password You can now change the default admin password and configure the wireless settings.
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

I need to reset or find my origional password. Please help. Thanks

If you have changed the default password, you need to reset the router to the factory settings to get in with the default user and password (user admin and password as password, or if that doesn't work try 1234 - these are the default password for NetGear routers). Note that you will lose the ISP settings and wireless settings when you reset the router.

Here's a video on how to reset the router to the factory default settings:

I cannot access the netgear settings.

to access the router you will need to open up your web browser and type in,it will then ask you for a user name and password ,the user name is admin, the password is password, that will get into the netgear utility for the router, that info can also be found on the bottom of router,if that doesnt work then you will have to reset the router to the default settings by holding in the reset button for about ten seconds located on the back ,you will have to use something that is small enough to depress it,you have to reset it while it is on,if you got it used then you should reset it anyway so that you can configure it according to your situation,ok have fun and good luck, you can get detailed info from netgears website.

I dont know my wep key

*For you to know your wep key you need to access your netgear router

*Open any web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Opera, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. In the address bar, enter and press the enter key. This will bring up the login prompt for most Netgear wireless routers. If that doesn't work, try, or until the login window appears.

*Enter the username "admin" (again, without the quotes), and the password "password" in the appropriate fields, then click OK to login. If that password fails, try 1234, Password (with a capital "P"), or admin until you are greeted with the settings screen.
*Go to wireless setting then you can personalize your wep key :)

Unblock netgear restricted sites

There are a couple of ways that you can fix this problem. My first question is does your brother know what you are about to do? The next question is Is he OK with you doing this. Here is how to reset the router log into it and set things up the way that you want. If the router is this type then follow these instructions.

Press and hold the reset button on the back of the router for about 10-15 seconds. What this does is it reset the router to default. After that LOG IN TO the router using This is a default ip address. After you have gotten to the log in screen it will ask for a username and password. This information should be located on the bottom of the router. It should be something like USERNAME: administrator and PASSWORD: password.
Again these are common default password ans usernames for a lot of devices out there. Once you are logged in to the router inside there you are able to edit change and remove any and all bocks that your brother has enabled.

Again I stress that your brother knows what you are doing since he is the one paying for the internet.

Please mark this solution as a FIXYA ifthis solves your problem.

Hot to reset the seting to default

You can reset your Netgear router to the factory settings from within the router manager. The reset procedure removes all user-configured settings and returns the router to the original factory settings.

For this reason, only reset the router if you encounter problems that can't be solved with other methods.

Step 1: Check that your Netgear router is properly connected with your system or not. If it is OK, then press reset button on Netgear router for at least 10 seconds. The 'test' light should flash during this process.

Step 2: Now open browser and enter Netgear's IP address into the address bar. Generally, '' is the Netgear router IP address but you can find specific IP address in Netgear router manual.

Step 3: Now enter your default username and password to log in to router.

Step 4: Click 'Erase' button under the 'Revert to Factory Default Settings'. This process will erase all your previous changes that have been made to the router and restore the configuration settings to factory setting. Don't interrupt the process until the process is finished.

Once the router's 'test' light has stopped blinking and the configuration page you are on has refreshed, the router has been reset.
