No paper error how does my printer know if it paper?

    There is no paper jam and the error shows whether I have paper loaded or not.
    This is my daughter's printer that I am looking at to try to fix.
    Addition problem is that the printer won't turn off.
    My daughter does not if both problems appear at the same time.
    I looked through it and can't find a paper jam

  • kbn0 Apr 30, 2010

    Could it be any thing other than a paper jam. I've never seen this thing work so I may not know all the places that paper can hide.

  • kbn0 Apr 30, 2010

    I turned it on again-same thing

  • kbn0 Apr 30, 2010

    The power button don't work as the only way I can turn is off is by unplugging it. When it turned on, I hear shafts turning then it seems ready. Then I hear something like something moving back and forth across the width of the printer. Then the red error light starts blinking. Not solved yet.

    I did the procedure

  • kbn0 Apr 30, 2010

    Same problem as before

Thanks for using Fixya,

The printer have some sort of detector to see if there is any paper in its tray. This is usually a microswitch (you will see a little finger in the bottom of the paper slot or tray) or a photoswitch (a small light and a photodetector on either side of the bottom of the paper )

If these have a mechanical or electrical fault then the printer can either think it always has paper or never has paper.

  • Try pulling the printers plugs (both USB and power) for 20 seconds, this will make sure anything in its memory will be removed (such as a print job that failed).
  • If microswitch or photoswitch got stuck, you could try some gentle percussive maintenance (lightly bump the entire printer on the desk a couple of times).

Good Luck & Have a nice day.

Hi! Is it a paper jam but theres no paper left inside? Please try to check first if there are pieces of paper left inside the printer and if there is please clear it. Try turning of your printer and turn it on again and see if you're ready to print. HOpe this helps and have a good one!

    Alright, please try this. Please unplug the printer from power source and press the power button for 15secs. while unplugged. Plug the printer to power source again and turn it on. This should reset the printer's system and get it back to normal condition. Sometimes it wont work on one hit, just try the procedure for several times. HOpe this helps and have a good one!

    If you can use a light to look inside the feeder or where the paper goes out it will be much better. Lets make sure that there are no pieces of paper left inside. It can be a hardware problem too, we need to reset the printer's system so please do the procedure.

    Alright, the one you hear is the gearing. Thats no problem dont worry. Try to check the ink levels if they are all good. If ink is lacking the red light is an indication too. You may need to replace the ink cartridge.

I am getting error message ' Load Tray 1, 024-910, Printer' but there is paper inside. Once we open tray and close, error message dissapears. Regards Melane

Make sure that after you add paper, that you tell the printer the right size paper. Chances are you accidently changed the paper size and the printer is letting you know that the "wrong" paper is in the tray. If you are using standard printer paper, be sure to change the paper settings back to "Letter"

Error 3, paper jam

use an antistatic vaccum or canned compressed air to clean the interior of the printer.this problem may cause by dust and debris inside the printer.inspect for any broken part in the paper path.if u find any u will have to investigate repairing or replacing the printer.
try using different weight paper .some printers work best with the particular weight of paper and if you use paper too thick or too thin jams can usually occur.thanks

Printer will not work. Error E3

What may have happened is that the Paper sensor is locked down and tells the printer that there is paper in the path (although there isn't any). The paper sensor is a toggle switch and there is a paddle that pushes it down as the paper goes in/out. Look on the right side of the unit ,under the roller assembly. Sorry, but I do not have a service manual for this unit.

Error list :

E2-2 = No paper (ASF)
E3-3 = Paper jam
E4 = No ink
E5-5 = The ink cartridges are not installed or a non-supported ink cartridge is installed, or the ink cartridges are not installed properly
E8 = Waste ink absorber full, or platen waste ink absorber full
E9 = The connected digital camera / video camera does not support Camera Direct Printing
E14 = The Ink cartridges whose destination are wrong
E15 = Ink cartridge is not installed E16 - Ink remaining is unknown
E16 -E19 = Failed to scan head alignment sheet
E22 = Carriage error
E23 = Paper feed error
E24 = Purge unit error
E25 = ASF(cam) sensor error
E26 = Internal temperature rise error
E27 = Waste ink absorber full or platen waste ink absorber full
E28 = Ink cartridge temperature rise error -
E29 = EEPROM error
E33 = Paper feed position error
E35 15 = USB Host VBUD overcurrent error - USB
E37 17 = Abnormal motor driver error
E40 20 = Other hardware error
E42 22 = Scanner error

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Paper jam

Hi divvy123, this is as follows.

E23 Paper feed error.
You may have to look very carefully for paper still in the printer where it feeds.
Also, the paper will press on a switch to tell the printer that there is paper present.
Another thing to check would be paper alignment.
Please let me know if this helps.
If not I will help you get an answer.
