Hello,

It shows that the switch of your monitor is malfunctioning, it is having partial contact, that is why it works atimes.

I advice you replace the switch so as to get maximum effective use of your monitor.

Take care

Three things I know to check. 1. check for broken kill switch wire or loose connection on same wire. 2. check for loose or corroded wires on switch. 3.If this unit has a stator and mag polish the surfaces of both and check clearances.

pentium 4, you can get newer PC for $20 at Goodwill stores..
far newer.
why operate such old hardware, that being said.
no OS stated, we cant help unless you tell
what operating system there, Windows 2000,. NT, XP, Vista ? what?
what PC, the PC has service tag, HP tag, with a full model on the tag, telling again what you have allows the helper to help 10x better.
first off simple logic works here, its 2 pieces, 2 boxes.
one is monitor other is PC desktop (one is bad, for sure or cable)
the monitor is a relic of the past with a glass cathode RAY TUBE
in the year 2017, (fixed many back then/....) the carbondate is 2000
so its 17 years, old.
you can test in on any pc to see if it works but many CRT are not supported now on new machines,
any PC with a VIDEO jack called VGA.
warning, back in year 2000 the PnP system is fauilty or uses and old method not used now, so mixing old with new is not wise. or
not a valid test, and the sleep mode rules changed 2000
the "VESA" spec evolved.

the monitor has an OSD, if the OSD is dead , at any time
the Monitor is no good. it has push button on the front
called select. or menu,, On Screen Display, OSD,
it makes its own special menu there, even PC turned off.
monitor on.
with PC off
You can also plug in any working VGA monitor in to this unstated
Pentium box. and see if that BOX works in 5min work.

here is test 1,
turn on the monitor
and push the menu buttons on the the front of monitor
you must get this, or the MONITOR IS BAD.
sure power cord good. powered on, and power at the wall jack good.

i just googled you manual and read it, in 16sec flat.
and here is mr OSD,

"monitor green light will switch off "
out means lost power. or the MX75 intenal power supply is dead, or line power is dead. AC 120vac, lost power.
yell means sleep.
if out means blank, (not green/yellow)
that means the monitor is BAD.
time to get a new one.
walfart has em on sale.
for a whopping 40 bucks, the price of 2 potted plants.

17-inch CRT?

Ask your friends -- one of them probably has a "surplus" 17-inch CRT that they will _love_ to give-away to you, to replace yours.

Or, look on CRAIGS LIST for a used 17" LCD screen, for $30 to $40.

Can you tell me where USB port is located in HP pavilion MX75

USB ports are located on the back and also on the front on newer desktop PCs. These are on the computer tower - not the monitor as your posting is categorized. They are rectangular slots with four copper contacts inside.
